Little is known about Mary's childhood and youth. She was 6 when her father died. Later her mother Theda got married again and Mary got a stepfather. Theda was always an alcoholic and later Mary's stepfather died, having left to his wife his adult son Steve. Later Steve began harassing Mary and her younger sister Christy. Mary was frightened of her "brother's" behavior and sheltered at the convent and Christy was left tete-a-tete with that psycho. She began running from home and even tried to prostitute. As for Steve, who became the DA's Office assistant later, he was keeping chasing her and after she fell in love with Ted he went crazy at all and raped her.

At the convent Mary became a nurse.

Mary's best friend at high school was Mark McCormick and her favorite drink was a milkshake. At high school Mary kept a diary.
