At the Capwells' mansion there was held a festive dinner that evening. Mason felt he was being watched, and he felt ill at ease. All the family could see that the Mason they had known wasn't there any longer… Jake tried to help him out, to engage him in a conversation, but it only made Mason withdraw into himself. He could hardly wait till the end of the evening to have an opportunity to go to his room.
In a week the test results showed Mason was quite healthy physically, Jake left. All the time he had been by Mason trying to help him as best he could. He had been telling him it was his family, but Mason had been keeping silent. He felt an alien in this rich house.
Mason wanted to leave, too, he wanted to be out in the hills, but Jake reprimanded him for his egotism.
"They do love you! They are so happy you're alive, don't do this to them!" Jake said angrily. He gave Mason a hug and then left.
It was a time of stress for Mason. He could not get used to his name, he found it hard to call CC dad.
Everybody tried to help him, but Mason could not get accustomed to anything and could not remember anything either. The expectant looks of his relatives oppressed him, and he was sick of visiting the doctors.
When Julia suggested his brushing up his knowledge of law he grasped the offer. It gave him the opportunity to be out of the relatives' surveillance just for a while.
Much to his own and Julia's surprise he recalled almost everything he had known quite easily, and successfully passed the test Julia gave him in a month.
After the lessons they were walking along the beach. Mason talked Julia into telling him of his past. When Julia touched upon the topic of his alcohol addiction Mason blushed and got embarrassed.
When Mason noticed that Julia was pregnant he made a point to find out who the father was. Julia told him of the baby contract. Mason was discontented. On the one hand, he liked Julia, and so he appeared to be her baby's father; on the other hand, she did not want to be with him as the contract showed.
It complicated their relationship, and so they met less often now. Mason had a tedious time at home. CC suggested his working for the family corporation, but Mason wanted to break free…
