Chapter 100 — Baby Makes Five

Mason just made the only call to get up all family Capwells to the hospital. Children started to fuss directly in the phone booth, he said goodbye already under their cries. He pulled them out the hospital hall and began to look out Mary's doctor.
"Mason Capwell. How is my wife?" Mason jumped up when finally saw Dr. Lewis.
"She's in labors," he replies and hastened in one of rooms.
"Doctor, waits!" Mason grabs his lapel. "When I can see her?"
"Later, now she's preparing." Doctor sighed, realizing that he cannot unhook too easy and looking at Mason's eyes he informs: "Mr. Capwell, don't worry. Your wife soon will be all right. You'll have the wonderful baby."
"When?"
"Soon," doctor repeated and leaves. Mason did not try to keep him more. But his tone makes Mason suppose something wrong. As if they hid something, if Mary is not OK...
Offended Samantha's cry forced him jump up and looks back. Chip pulling out from Samantha's hands something black and look alike to... Dammit! Mason rushed to them and takes away from little blackened fingers his favorite Parker! What really is too much! He inspected accident scales, estimating that he must to do with children who were bedaubed with ink. And they have been bedaubed densely enough... He gave the sigh and thrown out the ill-starred pen — it nearly loss during his kidnapping — and dragged both children in WC. But it appeared as the hard problem as Samantha wanted to return "the beautiful stick" and ready to get it even in the hospital bin, and Chip followed her.

Sophia and Kelly caught Mason with fussing and crying children when they come in the hospital as first of all.
"My God!" they said in unison when they saw bedaubed with violet Mason and crying out children who were also with strong violet outflow.
"Help me better then it," Mason snapped and handed Samantha to Kelly. She automatically picked up the girl. And nearly dropped her as Sam was not going to give up in the fight for the desired stick. "Hold her! And safer!"
Kelly sacredly grabs Samantha, and angered, frightened Mason dragged his son in men's WC to wash out the ink. Sophia with her skilled hand taken away Sami from Kelly and left out to woman's WC.
Kelly remained to stand in the middle of hospital hall with the tasty print of the children's hand on her cheek and the violet line on her neck. At the moment CC rushed in the hospital.
"Kelly, baby, what is happened with your face? Where is Mason?"
"He washes Chip, and mom does the same with Sam." Kelly pulled out her pocket mirror and focused to erase the ink stain. "It seems all of them were soiled in ink."
"Are you kidding?!"
"Nope. You would see that here was mess! It seems I sympathized Mason first for all of time..."
"Never," Mason declared, appearing from WC even more tousled than he was earlier. Chip still was in ink stains, but it's become much paler and was not spoilt more. "You never sympathize me."
"And I should?" She rolled her eyes. "You have the wonderful family, terrific children. Why you need have someone's sympathy?"
"Mason, how is Mary?" CC changed the subject. "Is she OK?"
"She's in labors," Mason declared, imitating the doctor to who just talked. "And we'll have the wonderful baby soon."
"When?"
"Soon," Mason vague declared and hands Chip to his own father, he walking to Dr Lewis. "Can I come in Mary's?"
"Yes, you already can. Only for a short time, your wife needs a rest."
"Is something wrong with her?" Mason finally exposed his fears.
"No, all goes as it suppose. Do not worry, your wife is well-handled."
"I would be like to be assured," Mason thought fast walking to Mary's room.

Searching a few minutes among rooms Mason finally found the one where was Mary. His heart's sunk at the sight her among medical devices, in the hospital robe. But then she raises her head, looks at him and her face's shining with the wide smile.
"Here you are. I already was tired of waiting."
"How you feel?" Mason comes closer and sat down on the bed's edge.
"Tolerably. And why you're so tousled? And what is happened with your shirt?"
"The pen leaked... Do not worry, everything all right."
"And where are children?"
"With my family. Dammit, I forgot to call your mother!"
"We still have time to make it," Mary calmed him. Mason pressed her palm to his cheek.
"I hate to wait!" he whispered.
"Don't be afraid, I'll fine."
"I cannot," he admitted. "If something'll happen with you--"
"Happens nothing, Mason! I promise," Mary smiled.
"Mr. Capwell, your visitor time is over. We'll call you in the delivery room when the time will approach."
"Thanks. Mary, I love you," he strongly embraced her and kissed.
"I love you too," Mary sent him the air kiss. "And always I'll. Send regards to your family!"

Returned to Capwells Mason found out that there is already all of the family. Ted played with Chip, and CC and Sophia talked with Cruz and Eden. Caught sight of him, his sister raised and, using her crutches, walks to him.
"How is Mary?"
"Like everything is right. So she speaks."
"And do you think that it not?"
Mason shook his head. "I should call Theda and Christie."
He's leave; Eden looked to his back and sighed.
"Do you think that he still is angry with me?" asked she her mother.
"No, just he worries about Mary."
"I hope."

There passed a few hours before Mason finally was called in the delivery room. He's already attended at Samantha's birth, but now its feels so terribly as never in his life. He ordered to himself do not to think about bad things and, by following instructions of the doctor, took Mary's hand, helping her to deal with contractions. But then something is gone wrong. He noticed that the doctor and the nurse frowning look at indications of devices."
"Mason, what's the matter?" He heard Mary's voice, and calmly smiled, in spite of the fact that inside he feels freeze.
"All right, my love."
"Mr. Capwell, go out, please."
"No! What's--"
"Do not argue, leave out!"
"Mary, I'll be here, absolutely nearby!"
The door of delivery room slammed before his nose.
"Mason, how is she? Whom we have?" Kelly and Ted rushed to him.
"Nobody yet."
"Mason, what is happened? Is something wrong?"
"I do not know," Mason almost fallen on the chair. "They told nothing, just asked me to leave out."
"Mason, Mary will be fine," Sophia tried to calm him. Mason answered nothing, only continued stare at the door of the delivery room.
Passing painful minutes. Each of Capwells tries to support Mason, but he could not think about except Mary's well doing. He's wanted to enter in the delivery room but feared that can see there.
Mason felt someone's hand on the shoulder and, raising the head, saw Eden. She stays near him, leaning against her crutch, and worried looks at him. Mason poorly smiled and covered her hand by his own. The spark of hope started to inflame.
After a few minutes, the door the delivery room opened and spat out Dr. Lewis. Mason stand up, battling with the rising wave of the panic.
"Doctor?"
"I congratulate, Mason, you have the son!"
"Mary?"
"She's fine, she have a rest," doctor smiling and patted Mason's shoulder. "After a few moments she'll moved in the room, and you can stay with her. Just remember that she is very tired. The labors are hard-working process."
At the point the door of the delivery room again opened, and the nurse taken out Mary on the gurney. Mason quickly comes to her.
"Mary, I'm here!"
"Everything is all right, Mason," she weakly smiled. "I hate to speak it, but you were right. We have the son."
"You just did want not to know the sex of baby when I suggested you to learn. But it's not important. The girl will be our following baby!"
"Do you promise?" Mary's eyes begun to sparkle laughter.
"I do!" Mason followed Mary to the room.
"I guess that you would look at your son," Lewis said and led Mason among others Capwells to the nursery room.
Looking through the glass wall at the small red baby laying in the crib, Mason feels some strange feeling. As if he found out himself somewhere in 3 or 4 dimension, and looks from the side. "I got to Paradise?" flashed in his mind. "We have the son!" he heard Mary's voice almost as it was in reality.
"Is it the truth?" said he aloud.
"Of course, it's the truth," Kelly embraced him. "Mason, come around, all of troubles are over!"
Nevertheless Mason do not left the sensation that he is in Paradise or in the fairy tale... But he was agreeing with it. Now.
