Chapter 31 — The Morning Of Surprises

"Mason, I do not want to be here as in prison!" Mary angry looked at Mason and got with her legs back on the uncovered bed.
There was of the half-eighth morning. She and Mason wake up almost simultaneously and already a quarter of hour has been not too productive discussion.
"I do not ask you to be here all day. I only want that today until 10 am you were in safe for these mobsters. I don't guess that I asking about so many."
"These mobsters will reach me if they will want," Mary bites her lip. "Look, I not going to go for a walk around. I just don't want to be in this room as in prison. Or you want that I start to hate it?"
"I do not want," Mason shook his head. "But for the safe, wait even more, OK? Busy yourself with something, read if you want. Can I bring books for you?" Mary awarded with her furious sight. "To the point, yesterday you seem wanted to call to your relatives?"
"I thought that you already were fall sleep."
"I did. But I remember all that was spoken at me, even when I am sleeping. Unless you did not know?" Mason's eyes flashed hardly appreciable.
Mary sat pout next half-minute and then burst out laughing.
"OK, I will do as you asking. But if you will come again with something like this--"
"I will not! Mary, you are wonderful!" Mason kiss' her in her lips. "To be here, I soon will come back!
With these words he is quickly run out, because he reasonably being afraid that she will think better of it, and locked the door.

Of course as soon as Mason locked her door, Mary at once regretted that she agreed to be jailer of this bedroom. She desperately wanted to bang in the door with her legs and hands and require that let out her.
For distracting Mary decide to call to her family and become slowly to dial the number her mother's home in Ventura Country. Slowly, because first she not so is good remembering it, and secondly because she did not know what she want to tell. Well this was Christy. She feels herself better for talking with her sister then with her mother.

However Theda answered: "Hello? Hello??"
"Mom?"
"What? Who is it? Tina if you are not, sweetie? You are poorly audible."
"No mom, it is Mary. Your daughter."
"My beloved daughter died more then full year ago. Your joke is very evil. Don't call here more."
"But mom..."

But in receiver begun to sound short hooters — Theda hung down. Mary overcome her trembling and dialed the number again. One hooter, two, and three... She already wanted to hang up as suddenly in the receiver something clicked and Mary heard a voice of her younger sister:

"Hello? Who is it?"
"Christy, it is me, Mary. Don't hang down please."
"I will not," she heard Christy's voice after the pause. "Mary! Say an anything. Please!"
"I will tell," Mary felt that tears run down over her cheeks. "I say many more. My little sister..."

The receiver dropped out of her hand, and Mary sobbing, nestled on the pillow. She did not understand, what is happened with her. The mother's voice and then sister's force her to feel herself a little girl again. The grief about her home never hurt her before, but now she just longing to return at home to her family. The tears run and run over her face. It seems that they will be never finished. However the ice hoop hurting her heart gradually becomes to melt down as well doing her ears. Mary falls asleep.
"Mary, what was happened?" Mason's worried voice wake up her. "Mary!" He embraced her.
"Got you bad news?" he pick up the phone's receiver on the floor.
"No," Mary gently moved away. "Just I fall through when I heard familiar voices."
"Did you cry?" he led with his hand over dried traces of tears on her cheek.
"A little," Mary rubbed her cheeks. "And how are you?" she worried looked at Mason. "If you were at the meeting with FBI's officers?"
"Yes I did," Mason deeply exhaled. "I handed documents to these guys. They know what is need to do with its. I think that now we can feel that we are free people."
"Actually? And what about gangsters? They... how they can find out that I have not these papers anymore?"
"And they already know."
"How?" Mary mistrustfully looked at Mason.
"They did As soon as I handed documents in hands of the agents, in the all California begun arrests. Probably we need for a pair of days to wait for a guarantee, but I think that they have more important business then we are now."
"A few days--"
"It seems to me that the couple of days alone with each other are in fact that most need for us. If you disagree?"
"I agree--" Mary began but at the point they heard a knock at the door.
"Come in," Mason called after throwing a fluent sight at Mary.
The door opened and Rose comes in.
"I am sorry, Mary. I did not meaning disturb you, but you have the visitor.
"Me?!" Mary even risen up on the bed. "It probably is a mistake. Anybody does not know that I am here--"
"Mary?
Mary turned her head and seen for Rose's shoulder the small head of Christie.
"Mary???" eyes of younger sister widely opened, she looked at Mary with almost sacred horror.
"Yes, I am," Mary felt that her voice start to tremble again. "I am here."
"Mary, you are alive! I knew that you do! I felt!"
Mary embraced Christie.
