Chapter 38 — Troubles

Mary wake up and at once realized that she is alone in the bed. She feel some worrying though have been understand that most likely Mason left to the lake, because he wake up early morning and don't want to wake her. Mary climb out of the bed, put on her dressing gown and just after she see a white note on the table. She come and takes it.
"Mary, I left for the food shopping.
Don't worry, I will be back soon.
I love you very much,
Mason ".
Mary imagining as he putting this note on the table, constantly turn back for be sure that she is sleeping, and smile. By putting the in her pocket, she begin to cook the breakfast.

"Dad, I need Mason's phone number," Kelly came in at CC's study. "The postman brings the urgent package for him."
"Put it here, I hand him it, when he will return."
"Mason will become angry."
"If he will, it'll his own problem. He did not ask to take any packages for him."
Kelly shrugging her shoulders.
"OK, then take it."
Without looking close at the package CC take him and out on the heap of papers on the table. However Kelly seems don't going to leave and he surprised look at her.
"Do you want something ask?"
"Ted--"
"Take him here!" CC staked papers, which looked through and put it on the table.
Kelly looked at her father and silently left out. Be through the hall she saw her younger brother, who was talked with Rose.
"What you did not if dad is so mad to you? Or you want to get Mason's reputation?"
"Not your business," Ted was more frightened than is malicious.
"In any case, good luck to you, Teddy! Surely you need some of it."

By finishing with not numerous home affairs, Mary goes out the cabin and walk down to lake. But Tahoe's beauty gradually becomes smaller conceding its place to an alarm. There was already almost the midday, and Mason did not come back yet. And after all Mary cannot help but she has the feeling that someone hidden watches her. Constantly, but from some distance. She tries to convince self that it's just her imagination and usually she can make it. But not now.
Mary heard the sound of breaking twig, and sharply looks back. Nobody. She turn her head in left side, then in right side trying to find any cause of the sound, but she can see nothing suitable. The other sound was heard again, and at the point she clearly realized what its cause was. Steps. Mary get up, feeling that the fear fills in her.
"Mason?" she shouted.
Silence. Suddenly her fear did disappear, and she distinctly understood that beside someone is. And this is not Mason. She slowly goes to the house, trying peek out to examine vicinities. Nobody and nothing suspicious Mary did not found out and with approaching at home she getting back the feeling of saving. By entering inwards she already was ready scold herself an alarmist, but suddenly she was heard a sigh of the person. The transition from save feeling to the panic was so sharp that she cried and lost consciousness. The man's hands picked up her near at the floor...

Mary begins to regain consciousness, feeling that a water pouring on her neck. Water was pouring by a man's hand and Mary opened eyes. Beside her sitting the unknown young man. The fear returned to Mary, but before she had time anything to tell, the guy worried ask her:
"Ma'am, you are OK? I did not want you to frighten--"
"Who are you?" Mary takes away in the corner of the bed."
"I was hired by your husband."
"What?" Because her horror Mary's voice was gone and she could only whisper this word.
"I was hired by your husband," the guy repeated. He does not understand why his words forced this woman to become whiter then sheets. "Your husband. Mason Capwell. He told that he wants that you should be in complete safety...:
At least Mary began to understand something. So Mason hired guards for them! My God, why he nothing said me!
"Davis, what the hell you doing..? Mary?" Mason stopped in doors. "Davis, what is happened here?"
"Nothing is happened," scared guy's jump up. "Just your wife spotted me in the house and was frightened. She even had a faint."
"Mary, are you OK?" Mason quickly comes closer to her. "I even asked you not to be shown to her on eyes!" he angry turned back to Davis.
"And I even answer you that it is impossible well to protect your wife and to do as you asking. She went down to the lake. I kept her as much as possible allowable distance."
"Mason, I am OK," Mary interrupted them. "Really! Mr. Davis, you will not leave us alone, please?"
"Sure," the guard was glad to get rid from Mason's angry and quickly run out.
"Why you doing it with me, Mason?" Mary does take away from Mason. "I nearly died of fear!
