Chapter 48 — The Family Meeting (1 Part)
The morning brought the bright Californian sun and next riddles.
During his breakfast Mason left from room to speak on telephone for a long time, and after he returned he seriously looked at Mary.
"Cruz said that he found out from whose exactly phone number was this mysterious call," he said, not wait her question. "It was the phone number of our DA."
"Keith Timmons?" Mary shocked asks.
"Yes he is. I was surprised too, but, probably, lesser then you since for passed year this rascal was glorified so much unseemly action that their too long enumerate! But here he obviously outdid oneself--" But do you not think that he was actually caller?"
"No, of course. A deal like this is too difficult for him. No, I think that he just has a contact with our caller--"
"Any news from Cruz?"
"Only that he continues to dig. Possible he will use their own contacts in police and FBI, I do not know. But for the first time I felt that he goes on hot trace. May be soon whole this history reach the ends. And we will find who does not give us peacefully to live."
"I would be like to believe," Mary has her coffee and interrogative looked at Mason. "Well, do you ready to go out?"
"Where?"
"Really! Do you forgotten that I must go in my mother's place? Or do you don't to go with me?"
"No, I go with you, but I completed forgotten about this. Well, let's go. Hope that she will not use me as her breakfast," in Mason's voice was a tip-off on question, and Mary smiles.
"She will not eat you. I'll not allow!

Mason's car approached to house, where Theda and Christie were lived. The Mary peered into car window and thought about that presently she will see the house. Passed the year... only or already? The great deal from that she remembered changed so extremely that occasionally she seemed that passed not year, but all ten.
They arrived at place, and not had time to Mary to come out of car as from the house run out Christie and embraced her.
"Mary! I so glad to see you!"
"I am glad too!"
"Mary, my little girl!" Theda minced. "What is happiness! Poor my girl! I was so worried, so worried!"
Mason stood beside the car and looked at her family embraces. He was aware about Mary's hurt childhood and adolescence, he remembered about horrible things what was caused to Christie and Mary by their half-brother Steve... But don't care in his throat he felt the lump, when Theda embraced and kissed Mary. Why all is going is so wrongly?!
Mary gets out from her mother's hands and led her to Mason.
"Ma, I want to say you something," she said. Mary's eyes was smiled, her cheeks were blush. "I and Mason are engaged and after several months you will become the grandmother."
Theda's power of the endurance was envied even an elephant.
"Mason — I think that I can call you Mason, after all you'll soon be my son-in-law? — I very glad to see you! I know that you did rescue my daughter from this horrible man, Mark, and I was just overwhelmed by your courage. No doubt that my grandson will have just remarkable father, I am so glad for you! But when you going have the wedding?"
"We not choose the day yet."
"I think it will have the placer after weeks 5 or 6, Mary?" Mason finally got a chance to insert his word.
"Yes, I think something like this," Mary answered with surprise and joy.
"It will so happy event! So pity that CC Capwell will want to be present, but I can deal with him!"
Mary afraid looked at Mason and relieved after she see that he hardly keep his laughter. Yes, her mother can become the big trouble...
