Mason meets Mary on Heaven
Angel: ...This is the place.
Mason: What place?
Angel: Cloud Nine, of course.
Mason: Well, aren't you going to be here with me?
Angel: I have to be going now, Mason. I advise you to use this time wisely. Wisely.

Mason: Mary?
Mary: Hello, Mason.

* * *

Mason: Mary.
Mary: It's so wonderful to see you, Mason.

Mason tries to hug Mary, but she disappears.

Mason: Mary???
Mary: I'm right here, Mason.

Mason turns around and sees her again. He comes closer and wants to touch her.

Mary: No.
Mason: But after all this time...
Mary: I'm sorry, Mason, we can't touch.
Mason: Why not?
Mary: I'm an angel.
Mason: I always knew that.
Mary: Angels are made of fire and ice, and that can be too much for a mortal.
Mason: Mary, I... I don't know if you're real or not. I'm not sure what's real any more. It's been all sort of hard to comprehend.
Mary: You always did overanalyse.
Mason: But not with you. You are the only woman I have... (his voice starts to tremble)
Mary: Go on. The only woman...
Mason: You already know.
Mary: Our love is timeless. You said that once. (her voice trembles too)
Mason: Then you haven't stopped loving me... (his voice fills with tears)
Mary: Look into my eyes and you'll feel it.
Mason: It's true.
Mary: Feel it?
Mason (nods his head): I never felt this way.
Mary: It's a good feeling, Mason.
Mason: It's wonderful. All the pressure is gone... and the hate... and all the hurt. It's... like...
Mary (helps him to find the answer): Heaven?
Mason: It is. Can I stay?

* * *

Mary: Everyone wants to stay in Heaven.
Mason: It's a wonderful place.
Mary: Oh, yeah. The climate's great.
Mason: You can't even fantasise anything like it. There is nothing like it in life. And what you did just now when I looked into your eyes...
Mary: Emotions are a very big deal around here.
Mason: So, where do I sign? I'll take any cloud you've got.
Mary: There is more to it than that.
Mason: I'm game. What are the requirements?
Mary: Oh, the first thing the person has to do before being admitted to Heaven is to very carefully reconsider his life.
Mason: I already did that. It was exhausting. A whole script. You wouldn't believe half of what I've been through since you... (his voice quivers with tears)
Mary: Oh, I know.
Mason: How?
Mary: I am your Guarding Angel, Mason. I've been with you every step of the way.
Mason: You've been there ever since... (his voice quivers with tears again)
Mary: Mghuh.
Mason: And... and you know...
Mary: Everything. You haven't had the greatest luck for the last couple of years. Losing your memory in that explosion kidnapped by that maniac Indian. Two wives, two comas, two personalities.
Mason: Yes, it's been a real soap opera. If I had known anybody was watching...
Mary: But you do have a beautiful daughter.
Mason: I'm glad you approve.
Mary: It would be difficult not to. She is the main reason you've made it up this high.
Mason: How did you get stuck being my Guardian Angel?
Mary: I asked for it.
Mason: Why?
Mary: Because when I was mortal I loved you more than life itself. I fought hard to stay alive. But... God decided it was my time.
Mason: I never stopped loving you. I put it aside... for a while. I... I had to, but... it was all there. Always there right under the surface. So... so tell me what do I have to do to stay.
Mary: I told you, you have to go over your life. You've looked at it, but you haven't really evaluated it. You can start by reviewing your relationship with your father.
Mason: We were working on it. It was ah... getting better, but before the wedding stuck, we were... closer. But you're right, historically it hasn't been a very good relationship.
Mary: Did you know that your father loves you?
Mason: I know, he said it. I don't think I trusted it. You know, I... I always felt sort of like I was in the wrong family. May be, I think, they got the babies mixed up at the hospital or something.
Mary: No, you're exactly where you were supposed to be.
Mason: It doesn't make much sense.
Mary: Mason, you are put with CC because of the challenge you present to each other. Everyone has certain obstacles to overcome in life. And you and your father have to face each other and resolve those feelings.
Mason: And if we don't?
Mary: Then our gates will never open to you. To either of you.

* * *

Mason: Nobody ever understood me like you, Mary.
Mary: You're a very complex man.
Mason: I know, I used to take pride in that. Now I feel as just a crashing bore. What if I went back? Could you come with me?
Mary: No. What we had on earth is over.
Mason: That's my fault.
Mary: Don't be ridiculous.
Mason: It's true. If I weren't such a fool, you'd still be alive.
Mary: I never found what I found here.
Mason: What have you found?
Mary: Peace.
Mason: But I was responsible for your death.
Mary: No, you weren't, Mason. Don't you understand, you and I were just playing out a story. And the story called for me to die at that point.
Mason: Well, whoever was writing it made a stupid mistake. What about if I stay here? Could we pick up where we left off?
Mary: You still have earthly ties, Mason.
Mason: I don't know. I... well... screwed everything up so badly, I'm just not sure...
Mary: You have Julia... and Samantha.
Mason: You mean you've been there? For everything we've been through?
Mary: Well, not everything. I'm a very discreet Guardian Angel. But I do know that you love her.
Mason: It took me so long to make a commitment to her. I knew it's because of the feelings I still had for you. We could've had it all, couldn't we, Mary?
Mary: It does no good to dwell on what's past.
Mason: And I've messed up everything and lost you in the process. I tried everything to find you again and all I did was make one mistake after another.
Mary: Oh, Mason, you have to stop being so hard on yourself. You can start over. You love Julia, you know, you do.
Mason: Yes, I do...
Mary: You can say that. It doesn't hurt me. You moved on. That's what you were meant to do.
Mason: I never thought I'd be able to love again. But I think it's too late. I think I've hurt her too much already. And I honestly believe she'd be better off without me.
Mary: I have it on high authority that that's not true. You can make Julia happy, Mason. Do you want to try?

* * *

Mary: Life is just an attitude really. Don't you think you could change yours?
Mason: Here I feel... everything so clearly.
Mary: No, that's true. And it's not easy to cling to the heavenly insights you pick up here once you're back on earth.
Mason: That's why I didn't wanna go back. And I know I don't wanna leave you again.
Mary: You won't leave me again. I'll always be with you.
Mason: But will I ever see you again?
Mary: I might be able to arrange something.
Mason: I suppose I should go back just to sort of clean things up. They won't be easy. I'm married to Gina. I have to explain things to my father, my family and Julia. I have to give back the money that I blackmailed... May be I'll just stay here.
Mary: You can handle it.
Mason: I guess I can give it a shot. So... which way do I go?
Mary: You just stand there.
Mason: Do I click my heels three times or something? I don't think I'm wearing the right shoes.
Mary: No. I'll take care of it.
Mason: Wait! I just wanna look at you other minute longer. You see, I never loved anyone the way I loved you. You taught me so much. I love you, Mary. (his voice trembles again)
Mary: Good luck, Mason.
