Great Thanks to Orly from Israel!

A few days after the flat tire
Mason tries to convince Mary to go out with him.
Mason: Mary, wait a minute.
Mary: Mason I'm in a big hurry and I can't stay and talk.
Mason: Will you hang on for a minute? I want to know what's going on. I want to know why you don't want to see me anymore.

After a short break.

Mason: No, no. I'm not going to take a no for an answer.
Mary: Mason you can take it for any thing you want, but I can't to see you tonight
Mason: I'm not talking about a long evening. Walk on the beach maybe. Or a picnic in the park, I'll have Rosa prepare an enormous basket just full of things that nurses love.
Mary: Oz? Formaldehyde? Mason, no I can't.
Mason: I know, you still haven't forgiven me for your flat tire, or your car been towed away, or ripping your dress or acting boorish. That's why you're saying no, isn't it?
Mary: No, although those are perfectly legitimate reasons for turning you down but no I'm not a one to hold a grudge over trivial matters.
Mason: Then I've done something really important to hurt you
Mary: Mason I can't go out with you because it's my night at the clinic
Mason: The clinic? What is so ennobling about spending an evening with the sick and downtrodden?
Mary: I enjoy it. Look, people have a right to medical care weather they can afford it or not.
Mason: I know that, but does it have to be yours? And if so, does it have to be tonight?
Mary: I don't think that's a serious question so I'm not going to give it a serious answer.
Mason: I think you just discriminating against me because I'm not sick and downtrodden. How about after the clinic?
Mary: No, it will be too late by then. Some other time.
Mason: I'm very hurt.
Mary: No, you're not you're just sulking because you can't have your way but you'll get over it
Mason: Not for a long time.
Mary starts to go away as he calls after her.
Mason: "Not for a really long time, Mary".

Mason's first visit to the clinic
Mary is having a small talk with two of Ginger Jones' girls, Dawn and Jerry. They have been volunteering in the clinic. Suddenly Mason's opens the door of the clinic, as he sees them he wants to leave but it's too late they've noticed him.

Dawn: I don't believe it, Hey Mason!
Mason: Well Dawn and Jerry, how fertilities. Hello Mary!
Mary: Hello Mason. You, you three know each other?
Jerry: Oh from way back.
Dawn: What are you doing at the clinic, finally hit rug bottom?
Dawn: he probably caught something and has to be treated don't make such a big deal about it.
Mason: I hate to disillusion you girls, but I'm not destitute and I'm not sick, I just came to talk to Mary.
Dawn: Oh I get it, Jerry lets get out of here Mason wants to confess or something.
Jerry: So long Mary, Mason.
Dawn: Don't do anything I wouldn't do.
Mary: Hey thanks a lot you two,
Mason: Bye girls.
Mary: So you know them ha?
Mason: There's a very plausible explanation.
Mary: You don't have to explain anything to me.
Mason: Yes I do, yes I do, they work for Ginger Jones and I've represented certain of her interests, strictly business I assure you.
Mary: A lawyer sure does meet interesting types doesn't he?
Mason Yes, indeed he does.
Mason: Well I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd drop by to see if you're close to being free.
Mary: No, I'm not, Mason. Listen we are just beginning to start a neighborhood campaign to get the children immunized I'm going to be tied up here for hours.
Mason: I see.
Mary: But thank you for asking.
Mason: Well if I can't seduce you.
(Mary gives him a frown look)
Mason :...away from your work that is. Maybe I can volunteer my services There must be something around here I can do
Mary: You ???
Mason: Well yea me, some people find me very useful.
Mary: People other than Jerry, Dawn, Ginger.
Mason: Charity sister, Charity.
Mary: You're right. All right Mason, fine, pick up a paint brush and lets see what you know about poster art.

Mason and Mary are in the clinic
Ted enters the clinic in a hurry leading Danny, who seemed bitten up, with him, the same night that Mason decides to volunteer in the clinic.

Ted: Can anyone help me?
Mason: Ted?
Ted: Mason what are you doing here?
Mason: Danny what happened to you?
Danny: No big deal.
Ted: No bid deal? It is a big deal, he got caught in the middle of a couple of gangs fights here, I knew I shouldn't have left you alone.
Danny: I just wasn't careful.
Ted: They would be coming back for more if you are not careful.
Mason: I thought you had enough sense to stay out of gang fights by now.
Danny: I didn't start it, I just get caught in it.
Mary: Just sit steel let me look at your shoulder.
Danny: Ted said I should have come here and have a look at it.
Mary: Well Ted was right.

Angel enters the clinic

Angel: Danny hey Danny I just want you to know there are a few of my friends out here who are waiting to talk to you.
Mary: Look I don't know who you are but you better get out of here before we call the police.
Angel: If I were you lady, I'd get out of my way.
Ted: Do you want some trouble?
Angel: That's right, I do. Seems like we all want some trouble, Danny why don't you come on out side?
Mary: For the last time would you get out of here?
Angel: Get lost lady.
Mason: You were told to leave, I suggest you'll do it now.
Angel: You better let go of me man.

Ted tries to help Mason with the situation.

Mason: I can handle it Ted .(To Danny) When Danny was brought in, we called the police, have you all be arrested for assault. I suggest you'd leave now.
Angel: You are full of. ..
Mason: Yes, Maybe I am, are you stupid enough to hang around to find out?
Angel: Danny I know where you leave man, you can't hold your reach white friends hand all the time.

Mason's voice is being heard "Out".

Angel: Bye Bye Danny (sends him a threatening kiss) if I were you I'd get back to Mexico.

Angel and his friends leave the clinic.

Mary: Thank you Mason, you've handled that pretty well.
Mason: I knew I had Ted and Danny to back me up.
Ted: Not me.
Danny: Not me.
Mason: Thanks a lot.

Later that day at the clinic, Mason and Mary say their goodbyes to a patient, and the conversation follows right after he leaves.

Mary: Mason you were so good with him.
Mason: I have many hidden talents.
Mary: Yes so it seemed, I bet today was not what you planned on though ha?
Mason: Well it has its good points, I've learnt a lot about you, and about this place.
Mary: So, you think it's a worthwhile enterprise
Mason: Enough that I'm even going to make a donation. Where do I make my pledge?
Mary: Wow, we can always use money, but what we really need is something else...
Mason: What's that?
Mary: What you've been doing all day, volunteer work.

Mason: Oh no, don't look at me I'm not the volunteer type. I wait to be called and chosen, today was fun …
Mary: Ye, ye, I now, I know, the novelty is wearing off.
Mason: Don't try to make me sound more superficial than I already am.
Mary: I wouldn't do that for the world. Well this is where we close off for dinner.
Mason: Can I take you to dinner? I'm not gonna pick any place fancy, I'll try to find the seediest place in town, you feel right at home.

Mary: Mason, I have nothing against good restaurants, it's just that I have only an hour for dinner and I don't want to rush through a gourmet meal.
(Turning off the clinic lights) You know what there is a very nice cafe not far I hear is very good.
Mason: Cafe it is then.
Mary: Shall we?
They look at each other's eyes and Mason's kisses Mary.
Mason:
Mary I...
Mary: No, no don't say anything.
