Great Thanks to Clarisse McClellan!

The riding on the beach
Capwell's atrium. Mary is trying different hairstyles and gets her hair in a pony tail. She is slightly taken aback when Mason comes in. He's got a big box under his arm.

Mason: Taking inventory? For the record I like your hair just the way it is.
Mary: Well, I'm tired of this. It's just so…
Mason: Unaffected. Please don't change it.
Mary: I didn't know that you had such strong opinions about it.
Mason: But I do. And not just your hair. (his finger tenderly trances the curve of her nose right to the tip) I have very definite opinions about these soft grey eyes. In the room full of people they… they always draw me back, make me think of any number of sweet possibilities. (strokes her chin) And this strong, determined, perfect… (touches her lips) And I saved the best for the last. But there is only one way to show you my opinion… of these.

A very long kiss follows.

Mary: Oh! I forgot where we were.
Mason: No one's here.
Mary: No… the… the nurse is coming down the stairs any minute Mason.
Mason: I'll tell her, she's fired.
Mary (smiles at his joke, then notices the box): What's this?
Mason: You see how she spurns my attention. All she's interested in… is the spoil. It's a present… for you.
Mary: For me?
Mason: Open it.
Mary: Oh, Mason. You shouldn't do things like this. Oh… (startled at what she sees) Ghm… Oh… It's ahm…
Mason: They.
Mary: What?
Mason: They're referred to in plural.
Mary: They are… Oh! These are those… ahm… those things you use for horse back riding.
Mason: Right.
Mary: What… what are they called? Ahm… Wait! Don't tell me, don't tell me… Ahm…
Mason: Chaps.
Mary: You told me.
Mason: Can't wait all day. Well, I can see they are just what you always wanted.
Mary: Ahm… They real … they're just… You know and the fabric… I love leather and… just…
Mason: Good. Put them on. We'll go for a ride.
Mary: Oh? You're kidding.
Mason: No. I know two horses that are saddled, and waiting and literally chomping at the bit to go cavorting on the beach with us.
Mary: Mason, I can't.
Mason: You've never been on a horse before?
Mary: Well, when I was a little girl, yeah but…
Mason: It's not a problem then. It's true what they say, it all comes back to you.
Mary: No, but I have to work at the clinic tonight.
Mason: You have time. I know the schedule, remember?
Mary: Mason, this is too crazy.
Mason: What's the matter? You're afraid you'll… not know how to put them on?
Mary: You don't expect me to wear these now, do you?
Mason: Why not? What better way to feel… at home on the ranch?
Mary: Mason, I thought you said we were riding on the beach.
Mason: Well, beach… ranch… it's all outdoors, isn't it? Go ahead! Make my day.
Mary: Ahm… OK. Yeah… ahm… sure. Yeah … How do I… (fiddles with the chaps) Well, here they are. You know…
Mason: That's back.
Mary: Oh. (turns the chaps around)
Mason: There you go.
Mary: Right.
Mason: You just step into them.
Mary (follows his instructions): Yeah…
Mason (helps Mary to put the chaps on): That leg first. OK. Very good. Next leg. (They laugh.) You've got it.
Mary: All right.
Mason: Did you see there is a knot here? Now, wait a minute.
Mary: Yeah…
Mason: Let me get the buckle. OK, now you… you tell me when it feels right, OK?
Mary: Yeah, how am I supposed to know what they feel like? Mason, do you have any idea how… silly I feel?
Mason: No use fighting about it, ma'am. Here we… go.
Mary: Hm…
Mason: I think you're all set.
Mary: Ah… well… Yeah, people are gonna think that I got lost on my way the rodeo.
Mason: There aren't gonna be any people where we're going. We'll have it all to ourselves. There'll be just you, me, horses and… I'll see if I can arrange for some tumbling tumbleweeds.
Mary: Well, OK Partner! Let's hit the trail!
Mason: All right.
Mary: Ahm… Do I leave my six guns here, or what?
Mason: Oh, I don't think you'll need them Deputy. Let's go.
Mary: Well, I don't know. I mean if anybody sees me like this I might just drill you full of holes.

They leave laughing.

* * *

After their romantic horse ride on the beach Mason and Mary return home.

Mary: Oh! I could've stayed out there all night.
Mason: Well, you know, I tried to persuade you.
Mary: Mason, next time let's do just what you said. We'll take a picnic. We'll tie up the horses. We'll build the campfire…
Mason: You name the day!
Mary: Boy… that beach was beautiful.
Mason: It's still out there. Waiting.
Mary: No! No, no, no, no. I have to open up the clinic. I do. In fact if I don't go change right now, I'm gonna be late. Thank you. (moved by her feelings passionately kisses him)

Mary leaves, Mason looks overwhelmed.
