Capwell house. Mary opens the front door.
Mary: Hi, Mark!
Mark: Hey!
Mary: Let me just get my sweater and my purse and I am all ready.
Mark: OK. How are you?
Mary: Frazzled. You know, there's something wrong with my car. And of course I don't have time to get it fixed. And... without it my life is just ah... frazzled
Mark: Well, at least you wouldn't know it if you looked at you.
Mary: You always say the right thing, you know that? You always did. Remember that time when in Junior High when I... I broke my leg roller-skating? I had that cast on it? You said:"Mary, it looks so good on you. Why don't you get a cast on the other leg?" You know, come to think of it... what kinda compliment is that?
Mason returns home.
Mason: There you are. You're avoiding me.
Mary: Well, I'm about to do it again.
Mason: Where are you going now?
Mary: The clinic.
Mason: Don't go yet. I need to talk to you.
Mary: Mason, we're late, OK?
Mark: Hello, Mason.
Mason: Mark. We meet again. You said we might. Or did I?
Mary: Common, Mark. Let's go!
Mason: Mary! Not before you give me an explanation. Would you excuse us, Mark.
Mary: Mason, I don't owe you anything.
Mason: If you're going to be this mad at me I wanna know why, so I know what to be contrite about.
Mary: You know perfectly well why. You tricked me into giving you information. And then after I begged you not to tell anybody, you go and you tell Kirk, and you tell Cruz.
Mason: Don't you think they had a right to know?
Mary: Well... Cruz... yeah! He's... he's conducting an investigation. I told him myself.
Mason: Why do you object to my telling him?
Mary: Because... Mason, you... You dragged information out of me and then you... you wave it around like a headline and... and I told you that I didn't know who it was that I saw.
Mason: What? Yes, you did. Don't try to backpedal now. You saw Eden.
Mary: I'm not sure I saw Eden.
Mason: Besides... Eden has a conscience, however small. Eventually, she'll be grateful to you for seeing her and turning her in.
Mary (yells) :I didn't turn her in! And don't change the subject!
Mason: Which is what?
Mary: Which is that you have betrayed my confidence for your own... ambitions! You think that by getting poor Eden out of the way you gonna have Capwell Enterprises to yourself, isn't that right?
Mason: It's not what I am trying to do, Mary. Eden tried to murder my father.
Mary: Mason... You are irresponsible and you're selfish. And you are a liar. And I... I really pray that God helps you. Because I sure can't!
Mary turns around and walks away.
Mary: Mark, let's get out of here!!!
Mason: Mary...

Mary and Mark are looking through files at the clinic.
Mark: Mary, you got a file on Mrs Diaz?
Mary: Yeah... (hands a file to Mark)
Mark: Thank you. (looks through the file) Oh, no, that's Mr Diaz.
Mary:(annoyed with herself drops the file on the floor) Oh, I'm sorry.
Mark: Hey, hey, hey.Wanna tell me what's the matter?
Mary: Nothing. Nothing's the matter. I'm fine.
Mark: Well, I think you're still upset about that argument with Mason this morning.
Mary: No! Why should Mason upset me?
Mark: You tell me!
Mary: Oh... I don't know... Because he's a... he's a snake who... lures you with his charm and his wit. And then he turns on you. That doesn't upset me. That infuriates me!
Mark: Right...
Mary: You know, he makes me just sick, Mark! I mean, he's got... he's got the most driving ambition... He has a self-destructive streak a mile wide, and... (sighs) I guess, it has to do with his father, you know... I mean he is... he is so desperate to prove himself... he's just... he... he's dangerous!
Mark: Hey, hey, you know, Mary. Did you ever think that may be that's why you are interested?
Mary: Oh, common, are you crazy?
Mark: No, no, wait a minute! I've known you since Junior High, right? Now, I've never known you to do anything that wasn't safe. In fact, I think one of the reasons you went in the convent was because it was safe. Now, think about it, along comes big bad Mason Capwell... I think you called him dangerous. You're afraid of him, but you're still drawn to him.
Mary: Oh, I am not afraid of him! And I am certainly not drawn to him! Not anymore. I know him better by now.
Mark: Hey! Opposites attract, OK? I should know, my wife is dangerous.
Mary: Oh, yeah? Why is she dangerous?
Mark: That's beside the point. The point is that she was... she was a challenge to me. Just like Mason's a challenge to you.
Mary: OK, so what we could do about it?
Mark: Hm... well... I married my challenge. But I don't recommend it.
Mary: Don't worry, Mark. I'm not close. I don't wanna even be in the same room with him.
Mark: But what... whatever you do... whoever you get involved with, make sure you know them real well first. And if it happens to be dangerous, remember that dangerous people don't change.
Mary: You're speaking from experience again?
Mark: What are you my psychiatrist now?
Mary: Well, no, but... Mark, I'm curious as to why are you here?
Mark:(speaks with a pretend German accent) This is a very interesting problem: you suspect everyone of ulterior motives.
Mary: No, I don't. But I think may be I should start.
Mark: And I think we should start tending to business, as in patients. I'll talk to you later.

Mary comes back to the Capwells'.
Mason: Oh, good. I thought you'd never get back.
Mary: Mason, save it!
Mason: Mary!.. I wanna try to make it up to you. Please, give me a chance.
Mary: You've had chances. What do you think I'm running here a raffle? I have no time for this.
Mason:(grabs Mary by the shoulders) Mary! Mary... You... you don't have to be at the clinic until 4. And that gives me 2 hours to beg your forgiveness and try to win your affection back. Won't you at least let me try?
Mary: No! (tires to walk away)
Mason(runs after her): Mary! What about these? (shows her a bouquet of flowers) Would they soften your heart? No, hah? (grabs a box of chocolates) Ah... how about... sweets... for the Sweet?
Mary: Mason! You can't buy me off like you can other people in your life.
Mason: Well, ah, how about food then? They say the way to a woman's heart is through her stomach. (Walks her to the table in the atrium set for two.)
Mary: Not this woman.
Mason:(removes a cloche from one of the plates) What, you don't think that... pheasant under glass... will help... you forgive me? (moves the plate close to Mary's face) Am I getting close? How about these? (shows her a bunch of old vynils) Well... if Sinatra won't do it I give up.
Mary: Well, give up, Mason, 'cause I'm still angry.
Mason: May be a... an apology would help.
Mary: Oh, that would depend on the apology.
Mason: I'm sorry I tricked you about Eden. Well, I... honestly thought that I was doing the right thing. Mary, I love my father. I needed to know who tried to harm him.
Mary: Mason, I understand that. But you... you hurt me a lot. And if you do care about me, don't do that anymore.
Mason: I won't. I promise. I won't do anything but try to make you happy from now on. Believe me?
Mary silently nods her head in agreement. Mason turns around and snaps his fingers. A Mariachi band, who were hiding at the back, come out singing a love song.
Mary:(laughing happily) You are incorrigible. And you are probably unchangeable.
Mason: I love you. (kisses Mary)
They both look incredibly happy and relieved that they have patched things up.

Capwells' atrium. Mason and Mary are kissing.
Mary: I wanna make a toast.
Mason speaks in Spanish to the band who then leave.
Mason:(to Mary) OK.
Mary: I who looked for only God, found thee,
I find thee; I am safe, and strong, and glad.
...so I, with bosom-swell,
Make witness, here, between the good and bad
That Love, as strong as Death, retrieves as well.
Mason: Elizabeth Barrett Browning..
Mary: Ohhh... I had to learn it in High School. I'd never thought I'd get the chance to say it anybody.
Mason: Well, I'm glad I am the one who gave you the chance to say it. And Love can retrieve.
The door bell rigns.
Mason: Ro... (turns arond looking for Rosa) Excuse me.
Mason opens the door. It's Kirk.
Kirk: Well, Mason Capwell. Just the man I'm looking for. Oh, would you excuse us for just a minute, Mary.
Mary: Oh. Sure.
Kirk: Thank you.
Mason: It won't take long.
Mary goes upstairs. Mason and Kirk discuss Eden alibi as per Pearl's statement. A few minutes later Mason comes upstairs to speak to Mary.
Mary:(jokingly) O-oh. Does this mean we don't get to have desert?
Mason: Kirk Cranston has a witness who swears that he saw Eden at Kirk's apartment at the exact moment you saw Eden here.
Mary: But, Mason, I never said I was positive it was Eden.
Mason: Somebody tried to kill my father, Mary. If it wasn't Eden, then who was it?
