Chapter 4 — One week after

"Dad, I completely disagree! Do you really think that we can hide it from Mason?"
"I have no other choice. You heard what Dr Lewis said. Mason can be dead if any a stress will come his way."
"And what will the stress do to him later when he'll find out? Did you think about that? And about Mary too… It is possible that if Mason will be beside her…"
"It is better to have Mason alive far from her than dead beside her."
"Daddy!"
"Kelly, what do you want to me to do? Do you think that I am glad by this whole situation?"
"Of course not, but it cannot go on like that."
"It can and will. Don't dare to tell Mason anything about Mary! Do you hear me?!"
* * *

"Mary! NO!"
The falling letter of the signboard. Mary's eyes. The last moment when they were close.
Mason tried to stop it from happening again and again, but he couldn't do anything. More over now he looked at all this terrible event as though from the side, and all on the roof, him included seemed to him as puppets, which are depended on a puppeteer.
"Mary, No! Don't die! "
"Mr. Capwell, wake up! You are having a nightmare."
Mason woke up to the real world with mixed sensation of a relief, loss and his own betrayal.
"Here, drink," the nurse gave him some juice. "Well, OK. Now, do you feel yourself any better?"
"I will never feel better," Mason wanted to say, but politely answered: "Yes, I do. Thanks."
"That's good. Do you want anything more?"
"I don't ("Damn you, leave me alone!")."
"OK, then I will be out. If you will want something, just press this button here."
"Yes, I remember. Thank."
Mason closed his eyes with relief. What a suffering it is to talk to them and to pretend that everything is OK!"
