Chapter 16 — Besteaded

Mason drove his car in the coast highway. His hands, shaking on the wheel, His opinion about Mark abruptly changed in the last hour. And when has this bastard become so determined? This year has changed him so much? Or maybe it wasn't Mark? But who is except him?
Getting more and more nervous, Mason added speed and after 15 minutes of driving he was already almost at home. A sixth sense forced him to go from the back entrance instead of the front one. Scolding himself for being so suspicious he took the twin carriage from the trunk of his car and brought his upset children into it. They woke up and the grimaces of their faces show clearly that they do not like such a way of spending time. On the big elevator Mason went up on the floor and opened the door with his keys. In the apartment was dark and quiet. Mason rolled the carriage and turn on a light. The living room was empty. He locked the front door and called: "Mary?"
The answer to him call was a loud crying from his both hungry babies. The door of bedroom opened and Mary entered the living room.
"Mason! You are here!" A huge relief was heard in her voice.
"Well, of course," Mason embraces her and kisses. "Me. Who comes here except me?"
Then he took Chip, who was crying more loudly than Samantha from the carriage, and introduced him to Mary.
"This is Chip, Mary."
"I'm glad to meet you, Chip," she smiled. "Give him to me. He must need to change."
After marvelously quickly care for the children, Mason and Mary sat on the sofa at last.
"You so well care about the children."
"We did a good team work. They are very nice. Mason--"
"What?"
"Mason, I saw a person out of window."
"Who is he?" Mason took her hand.
"I do not know his name, but I saw him at Mark's house. And today he looked at our windows. I'm afraid."
Mason did not answer. He approached the window and cautiously looked from behind the curtain.
"He has dark hair and jeans jacket, right?" Mason asked after few minutes.
"Yes!" Mary jumped and ran up to him. "Is he still there?"
"Yes. Have you noticed him a long time ago?"
"Two hours ago, or more."
"This means that his being here is not an accident," said Mason with sigh. "It seems that you and we got in some kind of a siege. But everything will be OK," He took Mary's pale face in his hands. "We will find him out. I promise."

At the same time Dr McCormick was pacing in his room of his motel, not far from Santa Barbara, in a powerless rage. "How could it happen?" he thought walking from a corner to corner of the tiny room. "How everything that I've worked for the last 6 months could fail??!"
His face deformed with a grimace of fury, when he remembered that he should thank Mason Capwell for that! "You've taken her again even though she doesn't belong to you!" But how could he found out about it? He couldn't, could not absolutely do anything to hear about this! Even Mary didn't guess anything.
Mark almost collapse on the bed, exhausted and caught his head by his hands. What is he supposed to do? How he can get back at Capwell and return his lost? How is he supposed to do this before Mason bring to actions for court? If the business will reach authorities — he is dead!
Getting even more nervous he smoked the cigarettes and dials the phone number.
"Duke, how is it there?"
"All right. No one entered. Can I begin?"
"Let's go. Only you must not lose, any other case for us will not happen."
