Chapter 35 — Dead and Alive
One should think that the sunrise and bright solar day should make to disappear all fears and worries, but Mary doesn't feel like this. Almost. Because despite all troubles she have Mason, who care about her even over a measure.
"Mason, I want to visit my father's grave," Mary informed Mason at once after breakfast.
"It is good to wait a few more days," Mason inclined his head. "A danger is--"
"Mason, you too preserve me. So it is impossible more," Mary gave a quick kiss in his cheek and touch it with her hand. "I need to return to my normal life."
"I do not argue that you need it. But--" Mason already want to bring his arguments for the benefit of staying at home, however instead he unexpected for himself said: " But you even not cannot image how is difficulty for me to let out you even for five minutes. I have got used to be afraid for you."
"You need to wean too. You see I am alive; I can not be constantly beside you. Mason--"
"You are right, Mary. You are completely right. And now we going to visit Ventura Cemetery as you want. I need only leave a note for my father and to see at the children."
"We going together to them," Mary took his hand. "Let's go and she pulled out him to upstairs.

Near one hour later they already approached to Ventura's old cemetery. Mary climbs out of the car and slowly starts to walk on one of lanes. Mason walked some behind her, not letting out her hand. He don't like cemeteries, he have a crow to pick with its.
They had walking already about half-hour as suddenly Mary sharply turned and come to one of graves. Mason comes closer.
"Beloved husband, father and Brother Kenneth Duvall. Have a peaceful rest"
Mason caught self that he whispers these words which was written on the grave. He sharply looked back. Mary was not here!

"It cannot be! Cannot be! It is just a nightmare!" At first minute these words running in Mason's head. "I am dreaming with the nightmare, and I wake up now!" he compressed his teeth until its pain and pinch own hand. He feels the pain! That means that he does not sleeping. And Mary really disappeared! God, what you doing with me?! Or all happened lately was just one large dream? He just dreamed that Mary is alive, and actually she is died? She comes in to his dreaming and he leaded her until... the cemetery? Surely it cannot be happened! Mary!
"Mary!!!"
"Mason, what is the matter?" worried Mary grabs his shoulder. "What? What is wrong? Something bad???"
Mason suddenly feeling as if a bright light appears outside after an impenetrable darkness. The horror was falling from him as if it was like ice crusts. His lips start to trembling, and he silently embraced Mary."
"Mason..."
Her voice a little bit returned him to the reality.
"M-Mary--" Mason even some stammering. "W-where y-you were?" he finally coped with trembling. "Where you were gone?"
He looks closely at her face.
"Mason, we need to talk! Not here, let's go to the car."
Mason suddenly realized that Mary is exited by something.
They returned to the car, but for some reason Mary do not wanted to climb inside. Mary leans on the car and look at Mason.
"What was happened? Where you were gone?" he repeated his question.
"I saw him!"
"Who? You meaning--" Mason hardly told "The Lord", but quickly in time come to the sense.
"The father! The person who Christie saw earlier!"
"Really?" Mason with great relief come back to the real life.
"Yes! And now I am not surprised that Christie thought that he is our father. He is really very similar."
"So you consider what your sister is right and your father is alive?"
"I do not know," Mary honestly said. "Until today's day I was sure that Christie just make mistake. I remember dad's funeral... I do not know whether he is our father or is not, but Mason, he came to my dad! Or, in any case, to any of nearer graves."
"If you seen him at your father's grave?"
"Not exactly."
Mary told him while Mason read the inscription on the grave Mary saw that the similarly looked person is going to their side. But just before she realized that he looked directly alike her father, this man noticed her and sharply turned in the opposite party. Mary walk to him, who changing his walking to running and quickly disappeared around the cemetery.
"Well, then I returned to you. I cannot follow him on the whole cemetery! And why you were so afraid?"
"I decided that the fact that you are alive was just my dream, and hardly gone mad in a few minutes!"
"I am sorry," Mary embraced him. "I am sorry; it was just so quickly happened. I had no time to think what it is."
"I am OK. It is my guilty that I am dismissed my nerves. You are here, you are alive!" he led with his hand on her hairs. Mary smiled.
"Alive, not doubts. Mason--"
"What?"
"Mason, I need to put on flowers--"
"I am sorry, surely you need! Let's go!" he guiltily looked at her and then smiled. "But no running out, OK?"
"Sure!" Mary with pleasure taken his hand which he stretched to her, and she walking side-by-side with Mason to her father's grave.
