Chapter 41 — Where Are Leading Conclusions
Mason suddenly realized that he should not to speak it aloud. Mary grabs his sleeve.
"About what the explosion you are speaking? Whose car did?"
"No matter," Mason tried escape from the real answer but to his surprise and upsetting Christie come into their talking.
"His sister Kelly's car — I heard about it in the newspapers. Mason, you are meaning this explosion?"
"Christie, could you leave us alone, please?" Mason was too angry to the crafty girl for be overnice with her.
"You don't leave!" Mary asked her sister and again she turned to Mason. "So she said the truth, was she? The Kelly's car was blown up?"
"No, mine," Mason sighed understanding that nevertheless he need to tell her whole story. "Mary, I just did not want to upset you--"
"So bad!"
"Christie, if you want to take a walk down to the lake? There is the wonderful view."
"OK. But I want to you will tell me about this then! Mary is my sister; I am take care about her."
"I will tell you," Mason nod. "Just later."
Christie leave out and Mason sitting down beside Mary.
"Mary, I really did not want to upset you. I thought that the explosion was made by Mark and did not want to remind to you about him and his crimes."
"What was happened?"
"Kelly taken my old car and it was blown up in time her stopping. Kelly accidentally leaves out and survived without any harm."
"But why you thought that it was made by Mark?"
"Mary... It was my OLD car. I did not use her the completely past year."
"And did you solve that Mark did not aware that you didn't using the cat?"
"Yes, I did."
"But why now you is changed your opinion? He could hire anybody--"
"He could not. No way. Reports of my PI saying that in that day he did no calls. And at the end of the following day he was getting in the clinic. The explosion taken place just before it."
"He could use the cell phone."
"Mark had not it, my PI checked this way. And Mark did not leave his home. Beside he taken so long time at the dentist that clearly before he hardly can think about other things but toothache. Look that he needs to collect all his bravery to finally go here."
"But if Mark did not this, who want to blown up this your car?" Mary's eyes extended from fear. Involuntary she taken Mason's sleeve.
"I do not know. But I can hardly think that supposed victim was Kelly."
"Are you meaning that you were...?"
"Look alike. And this idea narrowing the circle almost up to zero. Who could be aware about my old car and not be aware about new one?"
Mary and Mason puzzled looked each to other.
"Can be still Mark--"
"I do not understand why you ignore one important thing?" The resonant voice of Christie cut the silence.
"What?" Mason without large enthusiasm looked at her.
"This person does not know Mason's face, only his car."
Mason's gauging and then with interest looks at Mary's sister.
"Look, she is right!" he said. "Mark can hire anybody to kill me, but Kelly in my car. Yes, she taken it unexpectedly, but I didn't use it long ago. Mark could make something spontaneously, by seeing that it is empty, but now we know that he had not chances. And it meaning the person who put the bomb in my car knows about me nothing. He didn't know my look — surely I am Kelly's brother, but we cannot to confuse anybody by our similar looks, and my real car or my location. Yes, it is. But this way lead us in impasse."
"There are all ways lead to impasses," Christie disappointed sighed. "And in our dad's case and with this explosion--"
"Look may be these two cases are connected?" Mary suddenly lifted her head. Mason puzzled looked at her and Christie is stunned. She is never though about this...
Somewhere far coming nearer thunder-storm.
