Chapter 46 — Many Details And The Light Of A Hope
Probably Mary even would not find out the truth — all of Capwells seem were agreed do not open to her facts that can upset her. However by the accident she listens how downstairs worried Sophia is asking Mason about the event.
"You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth! How it can happen? Who was behind it?"
"I do not know, otherwise this guy already would gone in jail. Bullets passed by an absolutely beside me--"
"Bullets???" Mary run downstairs and grab in Mason. "Mason, are you OK?"
"Mary!" Mason embraced her. "Yes, I am OK. Not worry, everything was finished."
"Are you not wounded?" she worried looks up his face.
"I am not. I am OK."
"What was happened?"
"Just the accident shooting, the crazy man chose the time and the place for his shooting in his enemies when I was in one of little shops in western part of city. It was just the accident!"
At the point Ted come out of CC's study.
"Mom, there was the attempt of killing of Mason! The man shot him, but missed!"
Then he has seen Mason and beams with joy.
"Thank God, you are OK!"
"What?" Mary abruptly turned Mason. "The attempt of killing? You told me that it was the accident! You laid me!"
"Faster given out desirable for valid," Mason sighed. "I am sorry; I just did not want to upset you."
"Don't want to upset me! Mason, I am not glass and do not break to thousand peaces if you say me that you are in the danger!"
"I already said that I am sorry! I am..."
Mary come closer and silent embraced him. Mason put his arms around her, damning all killers and mafioso, who force them to pass through every recent happening.
"Mary," he said after a minute. "I purchased something for you--"
"What?" she takes away her face from his jacket.
"Just a little stuff... Do not want to go to look its?"
At the point they heard the belling in the door. Mary turned to look who it is. The maid opened the entrance door and it was Cruz.
"Mason is home? OK, you are here. I need to ask you for a few questions."
Mary sighed, looked at Mason and, after taking packages with his purchases, she gone upstairs.
In their room she saw that Mason purchased a few dresses for pregnant woman and heap of children's toys. Mary estimated dresses per herself — it should be fit for her — and postponed it's, and take toys. It was very enjoying — as well as idea about their soon-be baby. By taking in palms the small shady stuffed dog, whose black nose was only seeing in his hair, Mary downstairs to tell Mason that she like his purchases.
In the first floor she see Mason in the living room, but only just after coming closer, she realized that he is not alone one. And casually she grasped a part of his conversation with Cruz.
"If it means this incident was not precede by an anything? Any letters? Following cars? Suspicious calls?"
"Nothing. Though I was not at home in every minute, but I do not think that there was something like this."
"It was," Mary told with guilt.
"Mary? Are you for long time here?" Mason frightened asked. Their talking was rather nervous.
"I am not, I just now come down."
"Mary, you are told that recently there was taken place something suspicious. What it was?" Cruz questioningly looked at her.
"There was one phone call. Yesterday. I pick up the receiver and asked who it is. The man's voice answered that it is unimportant. Well, and I... I was frightened. I am solved that it was the same man who want to see dead me and Mason. I told him that he must leave us alone and hanged up."
"Mary," Mason looked at her with shock. "Why you not told me about this call?"
"I have to tell you but I was frightened. And I don't want to frighten you too."
"Mary, you listen this voice as familiar?" Cruz marked something in his notebook.
"No," she answered after the pause.
"OK," Cruz stands up. "We need to check up all yesterday's calls from here. Probably this unknown man really connected to the killing's attempt to you."
"I hope that you can find out something about," Mason followed Cruz with his sight and then turned to Mary.
"He is the good cop; he will can to find who it is."
"I hope--"
"Mary," Mason turned his face to her. "Mary, all be all right! I love you--"
"I love you too..."
