Chapter 54 — The One Piece Of The Puzzle Was Found
The onerous silence fell in the room. Mason and Mary watch each to other, not knowing that they suppose to do with the news. However Theda noticed nothing and continued to go in the deep of her youth.
"I was charmed by them both," she dreamy rolled her eyes. "So stylish well-mannered young men! At least once I thought then. Larry was so jolly guy and was so addicted to parties that I almost chosen him. But later I met with Kenny..."
Mary already opened her mouth to ask her mother why she never told her about her father's twin, but then she saw that Mason gesture her to keep quiet and change her mind. Mason was right because if her mother will tell yourself, it will much better than if they would press her.
"Sweetie, seems I never tell you how I first met with your father? No? Wow, it was just the amusing story! We were in the high school. His family just moved in Ventura, and they even had not friends still. Larry and Kennett came in my school and I getting know Larry by one of many our parties. Then sometime I stop by Larry's place to go out in cinema as we agreed early, but the door was opened by Kenny. He looked over me with my legs to my head and grin. I understood nothing and asked him if he is ready for cinema? He asked: "Do you invite me?" I got upset since it was Larry's idea to call me for movie that I suppose that the movie is enough stupid. I already start to say him all that I thinking about him and at the point Larry appeared! You can see it! I stood with open mouth and moved my eyes with one twin to other twin. Finally Larry realized that I do not know who is who, and said Kenny that I am his girlfriend. Larry answered that we already got meet and left out..."
"And what was then?" Mary asks.
"Then... Sweetie I fell in love at first sight! And later we were getting married."
"With Kennett?" Mason asks.
"Sure, with Kennett," upset Theda replied. "As I already said! He was such unusual, such intellectual, such well-read... Unlike his brother, who had the only thing to think: the party, more party and even more parties. No wonder that later he did off the track!"
"Off the track?" Mary asked just before Mason's question.
"Well, I don't sure--" Theda stop herself is not sure if she should spill the beans. "Just I heard rumors that Larry was in jail sometimes. Actually Larry denied it, but really how I can believe to his saying? I did get married with Kennett in the same year of our first meeting, and Larry leave out the town. Practically the last day that I saw him was thy day of our wedding. But later he appeared just before Kennett's death. And after his memorial service he disappeared again."
"Have you any idea where he is now?" Mary slowly asked.
"No, after memorial of my poor Kennett I even heard nothing about him! I even thought that he may be is dead; he did not appear here even after death of their parents."
"It is likely that," Mason stands up. "Mary, it seems this is directly that we were interested."
"Do you interested in Larry?" amazed Theda asks. "But why you don't ask me earlier? I could tell the entire story about him long ago! Mary?"
"Before now I did not remember about Uncle Larry--"
"No wonder," Mason caught. "You actually did not know him."
"I didn't... but I remember his voice," Mary said. "He often came to dad when dad was ill, right?"
"Yes, sure. As I already said that he came just then. And he even asks to move in us! When we were in the so difficult situation!"
"May be we have pictures of dad and uncles Larry, mum?" Mary asked and stands up.
"Seems we have, probably it's in the garage, sweetie. Or no! Christie takes the album out to her room. Look in her room."
Their searching takes not too long time because the big album lay under Christie's pillow. Mary opened the first page, and she got free the deep breath. Two young men looked at her. Two identical faces. One belonged to her father, but the second — his twin brother Larry, who, no doubt, was the source of all her present troubles.
However, Mason doesn't accept her surety that became clear after his first words.
"It's interesting whom of them trying to destroy our lives?" he absently said looking at Mary who slowly turns pages of the album. "Actually the twin Kennett is good twin? According your mother he was just a saint husband. But his twin Larry sounds alike a typical evil twin from soap operas.
"What you know about twins in soap operas?" Mary suspicious asked. "And in any case: my father is dead that mean that our bad guy is my uncle Larry. Just cannot believe!"
