"Sure he is dead. How he cannot be?
Mason was silent.
"Or... or do you think that my dad is alive, but his twin brother is dead?!"
"We can not exclude this."
"It's cannot be! How you are imaging this?!" Mary threw out the album and passing around the room. Mason sitting on the chair and watch her. "Well, yes, they were identical twins, but they cannot be completing non- differentiating. Even my mom clearly did not mix up them with her adolescence. Do you think that she could to mix up her sick husband with his well twin brother if other twin would suddenly substituted his brother, are you?"
"No, it's absolutely impossible!" Mary said and stopped just before Mason. "But we must find my uncle Larry, and as soon as possible. Christie clearly stays with him."
"Do you agree that Christie is in the danger even though you think that she is with your uncle? He is her uncle too."
"But I am his niece, but he easy put me in the danger. And my soon-be husband," she looked at Mason with sudden tenderness. "Really soon we will have three of us?" she almost whispered.
Mason got up and embraced her.
"Sure we will," he quietly said in the same manner. And after several minutes of the silence he added: "Mary, let's I take you in my father's house. You need be in safe."
"But you are going to the den of my crazy uncle Larry, are you? No, I don't let you out alone. I almost lost you today, remember?"
"Today? Yes, exactly. Just so many things were happened after and I already lost the count of time. It seems that there was assed already nearly month. Or year."
"But there was passed just a half-day from the moment when Cruz called me and reported that you were killed. I almost believe him."
"I am OK."
"And it's the most lead thing.
They were silent. Suddenly Mary snapped by her fingers.
"I understood!"
"What?"
"I understood that what was happened with Christie! All of her recently behavior... yes, it's that! Mason, just before than Christie disappeared she obviously wanted to say me something. I thought that she got news about that robber or just she saw something more than said, but indeed now I think that uncle Larry introduced himself as our father."
"But why she didn't say you?"
"Because I have been speaking that our father is dead. That I am sure about his death. She solved that I do not believe her. And Uncle Larry most possible asked her tell nobody about his arrival. But she wanted to tell me. I saw in her eyes that she did! She wanted to say me that our dad is alive!"
"But why your uncle can be needed to bluff Christie? Why he cannot say "I am your uncle" instead "I am your dad"?"
"Christie can spill the beans. And for have her under his control. To use her... What for? What for he could use his younger niece? But why he chases us also? You and me... It's strange. And foolish."
"For me is well," Mary's words were nearly not audible; Mason's better guessed than heard. In Mary's voice was so much despair that Mason afraid and walk close to her. "What are you talking?"
He saw that her eyes were wide with horror.
"Mason," whisper she. "After all... he--"
"What?
Mary bites her lower lip and shakes her head. Her emotions did not give her to speak. Mason waited and asked again: "About what do you speak?"
"Mason, he did all these awful things for the sake of me! It's my fault! It's my fault that you almost were killed!"
