Chapter 82 — Eden
The morning brings so long-awaited ease of relations for Mason and Mary. Both of them got rid of many of their demons and now they could look ahead with highly keep head.
"What you think?" Mason asked, fastening his tie before the mirror and looking at her reflexion.
"That I would like to spend today's evening with you and children," Mary fairly replied.
"Well, it's not too difficult to arrange. But let's make it not today, I am superstitious. I do not wish to put the evil eye on today's session. It's the last after all. Let's make a reservation for tomorrow at the Orient Express. Or not, it's better at any coast restaurant."
"Why you do not want in the Orient Express?"
"Mary, doesn't talk to me about it, OK? It's the restaurant where my family will not allow us to be alone. I remembered it by inertia."
"Do you not wish to see your family?"
"I wish to spend day with you alone. Do you feel a difference?"
"I do feel. All right. Let's make it will tomorrow. And now I'll come to Eden."
"What for?" Mason turned to her.
"I want to support your sister. Eden made many good things for us. And now she's very hurt. Mason, she may be never walk again, do you understand it?"
"I understand. I'm sorry," Mason stretched his mouth in a repentance smile. "I... may be I just jealous you."
"To Eden?" Mary was amazed.
"Not only her. To all of my relatives. You concern them much better than they deserve it."
"Just I have an unbiased sight. I wonder... may be you are jealous me to Christie too?
Mason shocked stared at her, but having noticed sparkles in her eyes, he burst out laughing.
"Surely I don't. And to your mother I am not jealous, anticipating your question."
"Already something good," Mary smiled. "A minus two candidates."
"I can not believe that you so easy see it," Mason whispered, covering her face with kisses. "I just can not believe."
"And I cannot believe that you are not on the way to the court yet," Mary pushed away him with effort. "Look at the clock."
"You are right. I need to run now. Dammit, why I have not time now!"
"You always want it at a wrong time," Mary said at the closed door after Mason's leaving. "But hardly can I feel dissatisfied."
Soon Christie come in, and after reminding her to watch closely after children who already walking more then steady, Mary goes to Capwell's house. Fortunately, CC was not at home, and according to Rose's words Mary found Eden in the garden. Eden was delighted very much to see Mary and began to asking about her and Mason's lifetime.
"I can not believe that Samantha already gets out of the bed," Eden sadly smiled. "She was a little baby when I saw her at last time."
"I would prefer that she didn't like this, I was so frightened," Mary smiled too. "Fortunately, Mason came in time to catch up her."
"Mason, the life-saver of little babies! By the way, it's not only his hero case. Once he caught me who falling down from the cupboard and Ted who's falling down from a tree."
"Never heard about it!"
"Sometimes I think that I can tell you about!
Eden and Mary laughed. Then Mary said: "Eden, can I ask you--"
"About Cruz?" Eden finished instead her. "Everybody asking me about him. It's all over between us, Mary. And now it's already forever."
"Because of your paralysis?"
"I do not wish to be the wife-who-cannot-walk, you understand?"
"I understand. But do you think that Cruz can be soon healed, do you? And yourself. Your decision brought a grief to both of yours."
"I can to give nothing to him. Absolutely nothing. Including no children."
Mary kept silent and then said: I and Mason are gone through the separation by my death. You know, he cannot recover until now. Yes, now he does not search for me after 5 min of my absence, but I still see fear in his eyes. The fear to lose me." Eden wanted to tell something, but Mary lifted her hand. "Allow to me to finish, OK? It was difficult for me to bear it. All time it seemed to me that I am the cause of his fear, that because my acting he afraid and hurt so much. As if I am guilty. But later I realized that its cause is different. Listen, Mason so badly feels that he needs to have me closely himself that he even would be ready to sell his soul. Regardless of the fact that I doing and saying, he was needed to have me."
"I do not think that Cruz have the same feelings to me," Eden doubtfully said.
"I needed a few months that to understand it. And still more time to accept the fact that I am a vital thing just by my being for Mason."
Eden laughed. "Yes, it's could be said by you only. Thank you, Mary."
"Do you'll think about it?"
"I'll think. Perhaps, I admit that I never see it from such point of view."
She looks at Mary with interest.
"If my brother aware that he got the real treasure when he got married with you?"
"I think that he's aware," Mary burst out laughing, in her eyes flashed sparkles. "He still not stops to say me this."
"I would do the same if I was at his place," Eden embraced Mary. "You are our treasure, Mary. Our talisman for happiness."
