Together and Forever

Chapter 81 — Capwell Fathers

"Let's go here," Mary pulled Mason from the bedroom to the living room. "Oh, you're shiver! And don't say that you are fine. Surely you're not!
Mason already beginning to feel how he shakes with a shiver. Mary forced him to sit down and put the blanket over his shoulders. Also she sat down opposite him.
"It's because of your father," she said after pausing.
"You're too smart," Mason sadly said. "No, my father was not the cause. Or in fact, it's was not him alone."
"And what it was?" Mary takes his cold palms into her own.
"It is difficult to explain... Your family, probably."
"Yes, I remember that with you begin to strangely acting after last our visiting to my mother's house. But I thought that it's connected with me. With my lost memory... Theda said something bad to you, did she?" Mary suddenly frightened.
"No, your mother was quite normally with me. Too hard to believe, but it's the fact," Mason smiled remembering their last meeting ashore. "It's about different case. Do you remember about a stunt that used by Chip, while we did drive back?"
"You mean how he asked to kiss?" Mary remembered. "It's made strong impression to you."
"Yes, it did. And still more the fact that Theda taught him it."
"I do not understand--"
"Just it's reminded me my own childhood."
Mary with astonishment looked at him.
"What you're meaning? Someone of your family did--"
"No. Just my childhood came to the end when the father divorced from mother. As you know, I never saw her after it. Since my five years' age."
"Yes, I remember," Mary sat down at his side embraced him. "And how it is connected with Chip's acting?"
"After mother's leaving, I grieved for long time. But the father married with Sophia soon... and got more children... In fact they demanded that I forgot about my father's previous "unsuccessful" marriage. And I tired out my early memoirs which have been connected with Pamela, in the most distant corner of my soul. Also tried not to remember."
"Because started to grieve again?
Mason nodded.
"It was too painfully at 25 ages as well as at 15 ages. And Chipper forced me to remember my early bad times."
"Yes, now I understand why you not wanted to see your father today."
"What he did want from you?" Mason frowned.
"He thinks that we have problems. And he wished to help."
"No way," Mason sharply risen up.
"I said him that we already work out with it," Mary finished. "Mason why do you not told me about Eden's calls?"
"Aha, the point that caused him to come here. To complain that I'm ignoring my younger sister."
"Mason, doesn't say like this. Eden really is in the bad situation."
"I knew," Mason looked at her. "But my father is not correct the person who would be to blame me in being non-supportive to the family."
"You're hurt even now," she risen and embraced him again. He tried to be takes out, but Mary not allowed. "Don't take away from me. I tried to do the same for some time ago, but it brings nothing of good things.
Mason slowly turned to her.
"Yes, I got used to be protected myself for all time," he admitted.
"Don't need to protect from me," Mary pressed his fingers. "Please."
"How I can live without you," Mason said as if being surprised to myself. "I just cannot to understand."
Mary smiled. At the point they do heard Chip's upset voice: "Da-da! Da-da!"
Mason and Mary having exchanged glances and rushed in the children bedroom. The shocking picture appeared before their eyes.
Chip stands in his bed and continued to call Mason. And Samantha hung on the outside of her bed and puffing, tried to get back. Mason picked her up when she was already in air, during the moment when her fingers were already unclenched. Mary sighed and rushed to check Chip. She convinced that he's fine and looked back at the husband.
"You'll strangle her," she said and began to exams Chip as if he just not fallen out, not his sister.
"No, I'll not," Mason responded, but unstuck the child from his shirt. Samantha thoughtfully looked at the frightened father and begun to roar.
"And your son seems to be a sneak," Mary said and takes the baby girl from Mason. Sammi calmed down as by magic wand wave. Mason jealously tracked them to the bathroom and comes to Chip.
"He's not," he declared a minute later. "Just my son is very smart so he called the father to change his diaper!"
"I recognize my defeat," Mary appeared from the bathroom with changed clothes and sleepy Samantha. "Your son is very clever."
Mason flashed with wide smile.
"Much cleverer than your daughter," added Mary and giggled.
"She just curious," Mason taken offence, changing Chip. "Like me in my childhood."
Mary clicked by fingers.
"It's that! Next time I'll ask your father, if you got out of the bed at Chips age."
"I never forgive him if he'll answer," Mason put in the bed almost sleeping Chip and comes to Mary who stands at the opened door in the children's bedroom.
"OK, I'll not ask," Mary sighed, and she and Mason silently laughing are going to their own bedroom.
