Chapter 94 — Mary Capwell Investigates
Mary wakes up when children begin to call her. With the fallen heart she walks around all apartment, then did it again. Mason was not here as well as there was no note from him. Nothing. Mason disappeared. Just dissolved in air. Mary remembered how several months ago she thoughtlessly followed Uncle Larry on the cemetery and when she returned back, horrified Mason clutched her to bosom because he cannot find her. Now she can see what is directly he felt during that moment. Inexpressible horror. The same thing that she feels now. No, she should take herself in hands. Probably, now she's Mason's only hope.
After feeding children and putting them in the double arena, Mary called in Capwell's house Capwell again. Answered Rose who informed Mary that they know nothing about Mason since the last tonight. Hanging up Mary heard how the key turns in the lock. However her joy quickly was replaced by disappointment when Christie comes in the apartment.
"How are you? Is it OK?" her younger sister asked with carefully interest.
Mary shakes her head.
"Mason disappeared."
"What you mean?" Christie surprised.
"I mean that I think that he was kidnapped."
Christie's eyes rounded with horror.
"Do you have the demanding for ransom? Do you already called in police?" she asked and looking back as if she expecting to see FBI's agents.
"I did not yet," Mary sighed. "And police will do nothing until I'll have some facts about Mason's kidnapping. Mason is not at home only since the last tonight."
"Well, I'll be darned--" Christie hesitantly said, not knowing what to tell more. At the point, to her relieving, her coming was revealed by Chip. And Christie begins her work for what she actually getting her money. She was enjoying by her job as Mason's children's babysitter and she clearly don't enjoying thinking about abductions and other terrible things. She likes Mason, but she felt uncomfortably when he was at home.
Mary decided that she should calm down and try to find though something that would allow her to find Mason. Handed the care about toddlers to her sister, she attentively examined the apartment's door. But she noted nothing specifically over it. Mary leaves out the corridor of the floor and began to examine the door outside. Nothing. She already despaired to find any evidences when suddenly paid attention that something is glitter on the floor in a few foot down from their door. She approached closer, and realized that it's pen. Mary bent and pick up it. Oh no. It was Mason's engraved pen. Mary remembered that the pen stuck out Mason's shirt pocket just before he disappeared. Even she almost can feel how she's embracing Mason and the pen rests against her breast. My God, its means that Mason was really kidnapped! She joined her shivering hands and convulsively trying to think what she needs to do now. Any calls in police are still senselessly. If it's means she must to wait only?

After a few hours Capwells are wake up. When CC finally realized that Mason not returned home yet and becomes to be nervous too. He can see if Mason disappeared for one evening, but if he's not come back home almost whole day it's really different case. Mason did like this early, it's true, but it's very rare. Too rare was if you're considering the situation.
Eden asked Cruz for a non-formal investigation until they cannot officially come in police. Kelly decides questioning Mason and Mary's neighbors — may be one of them can see Mason yesterday. Slowly, but the investigation finally begun...
Feeling weak and helpless, Mary repeatedly scrolled in her mind events of the last day hoping to find something that would help them to find Mason. It was simple case — after tactful but accurate questioning by Cruz. She was not consoled even by the fact that many people actively search for Mason. She did not believe that they will manage to find him for some reasons.
Mary picks up Mason's jacket from the floor. Absently she stirred up it, and seen that the note dropped out of the pocket. With hope she takes it but it was the same note with words about the beach slave from Mason's friend Chris. Mary smoothed the note between fingers and re-read it. Something in the text triggered her. From the very first time it looked to her with some well-known... Mary sat down on the sofa, painfully trying to remember. Then she lifted up her head and called: "Christie!"
"I'm here," her sister comes out the bedroom. "What is wrong?"
"Have you even heard the expression "a beach slave"?"
"A beach slave?" she surprised. "I don't."
Mary disappointedly sighed.
"Well unless--" Christie hesitating stretched. "Mom's spoke it long time ago."
In Mary's head suddenly clicked. She realized from whom she heard such expression. Is it possible? But all fits together. Mary's face turned white because her anger.
"Mary, what is happens?" Christie becomes worried.
"Happens nothing. Yet," Mary through her teeth said. "Stay with children, I should see someone."
"It's about Mason?" sister asked her.
"May be," Mary nodded and going out the door. She very much hoped that it is. How she was stupid! She never will forgive her for being it. My God, let's Mason be alive and well! Please! Let's he will return to her!
