Chapter 93 — The Secret Of Mason's Disappearance
After a few minutes Mary with Samantha on hands returned to the drawing room and was very surprised when she doesn't found out Mason on the sofa.
"Mason!" she called. "Mason, where are you?
But the silence was only answer to her. Mary put Sami down and together with her stepdaughter walks around the apartment, but Mason just dissolved in air. She's felt weakness and fear, and sits down on the sofa. Samantha climb on it and taken a nap near Mary, sucking her finger. Mary automatically hugged her, trying to understand what is happened.
Where Mason could disappear? May be he just leave? But why he said her nothing? Or the case was actually too important that he darted off and forgot inform her? May be something bad are happened in the Capwell's house? She moved asleep Sammi to the sleeping room. Then she returned to the drawing room and called Capwell's house. To her surprise CC hang up.
"No, Mary, Mason was not here," he replied. "In last time I saw him when he proved that he is a heartless idiot, refusing to be glad for his own sister. I'm sorry that you had to see this unpleasant scene."
"CC, doesn't be slander on Mason. He loves Eden and surely he was glad to her recovering. I call because there is something wrong."
"And what is?"
"Mason disappeared."
First she heard a silence only, and then CC carefully asked: "If I guess that you already searched him in bars of the city?"
"What?" Until the point Mary never though about the turn like this. For a second she begun to hesitate, but then she images Mason's face as she saw him in the last time, and firmly said: "No, I did not and don't going make it. Mason no needs to leave to drink."
"Are you sure? It is a usual way of the decision of problems for Mason."
"We have no problems! We did talk and work out everything"
"Mary, for all years that I can see Mason, his behavior always was self-destructive. He went all out to make worse everyone, including himself;" Mary sucks the air between her teeth and closed eyes, trying to keep tears. During this moment he fully felt that means to be Mason in family Capwells. "He doesn't need any reasons. He just can drive to tears all of the family, and then go in a bar and load up here. I never could understand what for he doing it. After all he already received all of he wanted, wreaking his anger on others. But he never gets enough of it; he wanted to drive himself to swinish condition--"
"Enough, CC," Mary could not bear it more. "I understood your idea, but you are wrong. I am sure that Mason is not loading up in a bar as you expressed. He was forced to disappear. And I just pray God that he could return in alive and well. Good night, CC. I am sorry that I called too late."
Mary banged the receiver on the phone and deeply thought. What she suppose to do? Capwells know nothings, it is clear. And Mason has not other reasons being off somewhere, without any word to her. If Mason actually was kidnapped as she just said to his father in the heat of the moment? Though he did not believe her after all. But even if it's that, what she can make now? Late night, she was alone in the apartment with two little children... Police even will not listen her; they'll just laugh if she tells that her husband is not at home less then one hour. She was feared for Mason, but has a little hope that that he will return yet... She searched all of drawing room for any Mason's note, and after found nothing, she exhausted climbed on the sofa. Covering up with a plaid, she began to wait for Mason, trying to convince her that he can return in any moment and wiping uninvited tears. Gradually she fell asleep. In her dream joyful and wet Mason called her to swim in ocean nearly to Capwell's yacht.
Mason regained consciousness, when there was already early morning. He sat down and pulls a face from the headache which pierced his temples. Where I am?" flashed in his head. What is happened? If he is in a lock-up, or that? But the memory of yesterday suddenly sharply returned with all details to him. He was kidnapped and brought to the house, having locked in the cellar where he is now. He had no even a slightest idea who is his kidnappers. Most likely, they will ask a ransom for me," absently thought Mason and just realized who'll asked for a ransom. The thought that Mary can be in a danger make him to jump up and start banging on walls."
"Let me out! Hear me, let me out! Do not touch my wife! Do not dare to touch Mary!"
He shouted long enough until he become hoarse. Realizing that nobody is going to answer him, he decided to trying to get out. After observing the cellar, he understood that 1) its unreal to get out by his own powers and 2) someone taken care about his breakfast and left the package with chocolate bars and several Cola bottles in the corner. Eating the bar and drinking warm Cola, Mason tensely thinks that he suppose to do now. They don't going to kill him, it was obvious. Or even make him starve. Means, most likely, he was kidnapped for getting a ransom. And then he can to try to talk over kidnappers. He's well-known lawyer after all! Now, when his first plan was generated, Mason was disturbed by one only — nobody must hurt Mary. From one thought about she can be hurt his heart wrung with the sensation of his own helpless. Why someone separated them again! And why it's happened now!
