Chapter 92 — Separated Soulmates
Mary overtaken for Mason when he tried to open car's door with foully shaking hands.
"Mason, don't doing it," she begins, but at the point the car door finally given in and Mason jerked it to himself. He silently waited while Mary sat down on passenger seat and pressed the gas pedal into the floor."
"Mason, slow down or you'll kill us. Or better I'll drive myself," Mary asked. Mason silently shakes his head, but speed did slower. Mary decided to wait with conversations until home, she frightened by Mason's upsetting. She did not understand why he so overreacted. Yes, she thought that he can be dissatisfied, but his actual acting...
They reached the house; in silence come back the apartment. They were met by surprised Christie.
"Why you come back so early?" she asked, but under Mason's angry look, she quickly hidden her curiosity. After kissing sister and whispered her that children are fed and sleep, she run out to give a place for Mason and Mary can find out their relations. However, already leaving the house Christie begun to doubt if Mary really need her help, but then decided do not interfere between them. She did not doubt that Mason don't hurt Mary. Only not her. Even if Mason is belong to Capwell family. Without any words Mason start to loose his tie. Mary deeply sighed and exhausted sit down on the chair.
"Mason, what is wrong with you?" she finally asked. "You are not yourself."
"You too," he throws his tie on the sofa and with several sharp movements dumped his smoking. "I thought that we do not have secrets from each others."
"Eden asked me--"
"I heard."
"Well, and what you want? That I would rejected Eden only for nothing hide from you? Or against her decision I would told you things that she asked not to tell?"
"I want a trust. Do you think that I asking too much?"
"A trust... Or a total control?" Mary slowly said. "Do you want that my life began and ended only with you? That my life will have nothing except you?"
Mason, who pouring brandy for himself, stunned. He was not agreed with Mary, but her words have some truth too. Especially her last clause. His rage suddenly is down, leaving for feeling total exhausting. With the glass in the hand Mason sat down on the sofa. Mary instantly felt his changed mind and sit nearby. Tried to take out brandy from his hand, but Mason do not give in the glass and put it on the coffee table as if underlining that brandy means nothing.
"Mason--"
"What? Do you want that I become a different person?"
"No. Why do you think so?" Mary was surprised. "I only want that you did not force me to choose between your sister and you."
"Means that I am who must to choose?"
"Mason, but why? Why you bring the question with an angle like this? What for to choose anyone? We are the family."
"We are. And you try to divide us."
"I try to divide?" Mary offended. "I just agree to help Eden."
"... Who never missed a change to take the best place."
Mary felt that she becomes crazy. She hardly understood Mason. Or better say... Yes she understood but not for the situation. And now their conversation reminded her something. As if she already heard something like this earlier. But where and when? Their talks are not often concerned Eden... Anyway in the last year. And finally she does remember. Her and Mason's conversation when CC regained consciousness after coma and called for all of his children in the room by order. He invited everyone except Mason. Mason suffered because its uncertainty and they talked in the belvedere. Then also he almost did not hear her and only tried to reasoning why the father "passed forward" not only his brother and sisters, but also even then-being Eden's husband Kirk. She still remembers how Mason's face showed his heartache.
"You feels like you not a member of family Capwells," Mary realized, do not noticing that speaks aloud. "And you seem that I have supported them against you."
Mason raised his face and looked her. First time he looked into her eyes. Walls, which were built by him around himself, started to fall with a roar. Mary understood it without words and embraced him for the neck. Mason move her closer, he seemed that he just flied on heavens. He did not understand why began to push away Mary. Now he sharply felt that he could not live without her. Past two weeks that he lived with suspicions and the last hours that he felt thrown by everyone including her looks alike a hell now. His personal hell where he lived before met Mary, and the year when he thought that she died."
"I love you," he whispered, burying his head in her hair. "I cannot live without you."
His voice had so much despair that Mary almost physically felt his pain.
"You don't need to live without me. I'll not leave anywhere. We'll be together forever," she said, kissing him. She feels that her cheeks are wet but did not know it's her tears or Mason's. But it's unimportant. Mason's pain became their common. The pain that leaving now, she knew it.
Kisses became more and more passionate, however children whom they almost forgotten during that moment, reminded about their self with a roar of double force. Mary and Mason jerked away as if they received a cold shower. They looked to each other and laughed. Mary stands up.
"I'll go and look at them," she said and walks to the nursery after kissing Mason.
"If you do not return in five minutes, I'll come for you," Mason promised. He stands up and began to unbutton his shirt, but at the point there was the call at the door.
Mason frowned but walks to open, being assured that it's someone of Capwells. But behind the door was nobody. Mason made the step for the threshold to look out the corridor, and suddenly something like fall over him. The blow on the head knocked Mason down, and already falling down Mason felt that some rag with nasty smell of chloroform pressing to his face. "Mary!" Mason just managed to think and fall down in darkness...
