Together and Forever

Chapter 74 — Nightmares

The following they have some peaceful days. Mason at last could plunge into the work, Mary rendered habitable apartment with pleasure and played with kids among with Christie... It seems that all finally came on its places. And even Uncle Larry did not disturb them with his visits. Mary already started to believe that all troubles come to the end...
The girl walks runs and again walks on quarters of the half-familiar city. She was scared and wished to come back home, but did not know how it does. Having stumbled once again about a heap of dust in a gateway, she hardly falls. Tears flew on her face, leaving dirty smudges. She looked as the beggar outwardly practically not differing from street children who lived those quarters through which she run.
Faster, faster, faster — her internal voice adjusted her, forcing her to add her steps, though she so hardly was tired. Only the fear now forced her to move.
The sharp scratch of tires forces the girl to fall asleep on a place. Partially for fear, partially from an ancient instinct of self-preservation "do not move and you will not noticed". The horror accrues; she hardly restrains to cry in aloud voice. Suddenly she was shined with a stream of light and...
"Mary, Mary! Wake up!" someone shook her, forcing terrible street to grow dim. Mary opens eyes. Twilight, her and Mason's apartment. And his face anxious and frightened.
"It is just nightmare," Mary mutters, embracing him. And again falls asleep, already without any nightmares and dreams.
In next day Mason tried to ask Mary about her nightmare, but she could not remember the dream's maintenance.
"All have nightmares someday," she shrugged shoulders and concentrated on Chip's dressing.
"However, something caused it after all. Do you hide something from me?"
Mary surprised straightens and looked at Mason.
"And what I could hide?"
"Well, for example, the call of your uncle. In addition, you did not answer my question."
"No! I do not hide anything!" Mary almost took offence for his mistrust. "And Uncle Larry did not call. That as I hope as will proceed longer as possible."
"I am sorry," Mason contritely inclined his head. "I am just not got used to a quiet life."
"Mason, it was just a dream!" Mary sat Chip on his knees and sat nearby. Samantha on the floor with concentration tormented the pink stuffed elephant. "Do not worry, I'll fine."
However, the next night the nightmare repeated. Also began to repeat every night.
Mason sometimes started talking to Mary about it, but each time received the answer that it's just dream.
At last, when he found Mary deeply sleeping in the afternoon, his bowl of its patience was overflowed.
"Mary, I cannot stand it more! You are suffering in every night; you just cannot image how heartbreaking you cry in your nightmare!"
"So, I am damaging your sleep? Perhaps then may be we needed to split on different bedrooms? Then you will not hear from any sounds from me!" Her sleepless nights and irritation at Mason who pressed her, merged in venomous irony.
"Mary," Mason took her hands and despite her protests, he forced her to sit down on the sofa. "Tell to me what you afraid?"
"I am afraid nothing!" Mary tried to be pulled out, but Mason kept her. "Then why you do not see obvious? Something happens with you."
"Nothing, except I have nightmares. Mason, its just bad dreams."
"When you have them for every nights, it already not just bad dreams. Tell to me what you dreams," Mason replaced his grips with embraces. Mary was not in debt and forced him to plunge into the long kiss."
"You would be trifled," he told regretfully coming off from her lips. "Your knacks can to fall down even a bull."
Mary giggled, but then again became serious.
"All right," she told. "I do not think that it will give something to you, but I will tell you what I dreamed. I see myself as a child. I am run though some dirty quarters of Santa Barbara as I guess. I know that some bad people chase me. Then the car approaches and find out where I am. And the end, I wake up."
Mason deeply thought.
"And earlier you had the nightmare?"
"No as far, I can remember. And why do you ask?"
"It cannot be your memoirs?"
"Do you think that I was such boyish girl? No, I had the quite respectable life. And the childhood also."
"And nevertheless?"
"I do not know. If it is my memoirs, I do not remember them."
Mason kept silent, and then says the thing that he had on the tip of his language for long time.
"Mary, may be you need to talk with to a specialist?"
"WHAT?" Mary takes away him, the offence overflowed her. "No, Mason. No psychiatrists."
"And psychoanalysts?"
"And their and all other who is beginning with "psych"."
"Are you sure?"
"Mason, what you want from me? Remember, what our life was some recently. Do you think that it is easy to get used that nobody tries to kill you?" On her last words Mary not sustained and giggled. "My God, the phrase as if it was from the romance book!"
"I do not think that is easy," Mason smiled. "But it is almost unbearable for me to see in your eyes a fear when I awake you at midnight."
"It is not forever, give me time, OK? I--" Mary's sight moved to the moment, and eyes were opened wide. "My God! Mason, look!"
Mason quickly turned back, ready to see behind his own back the mafioso with the gun, but there was nobody.
"What you want--" he begins, but then understood where Mary shows and said the same that she said earlier. "My God!"
Then his face blurred with the smile, and he looked at Mary who wide smiled also. And the little boy Chip stood near the sofa, having his finger in the mouth, and did not understand why adults stared him."
"Mason, he is stands up!" finally exhaled Mary.
"And what you thought?" Mason tried to pretend that happens nothing. "We Capwells cannot remain to creep for the rest of the life!"
He picked up the son and begun to whirl him around the room. Samantha indignantly looked at the father and stretched hands to Mary. Mary picks up her and comes to happy Mason.
"And do you still doubt what we are will be al right?"
"No, but I would prefer that the future already turned to the present."
