Together and Forever

Chapter 86 — One Of Mason Capwell's Demons

Mary comes back home and found out Mason here, to her huge surprise.
"I thought that you have a busy day in the court today?" She came to him and kisses.
"Today's session was cancelled; the defendant had a heart attack."
"It's terrible!"
"No, it's not, actually he'll fine. But they cannot to continue today. And now we have a chance to stay alone for little time. While Christie is strolling with children."
Mason sat down on the sofa and drawing closely Mary. She embraced him, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Mason--"
"What?"
"Who was Chris for you?'
She felt how Mason shuddered and strained, and even more strong nestled on him.
"The friend," Mason finally said.
"Your friend? But why you told me that he never existed?"
"Because I never knew his name. He did not hide that Chris Rock was a superhero name that he made for himself."
"If he was your childhood friend?"
Mason moves away and looks at Mary's face.
"All right, I'll tell you about him. I never told anybody about--"
"Why?"
"Now you'll see. It happened in the year of supposed Sophia's death. At this summer. I felt myself absolutely lost down, first I was thrown away by my own mother, then by my stepmother too... I did not know what I must do and often spent time on a beach. There I got a chance don't think about all--"
"You do hurt when you remember it even now."
"Yes. Then it seemed me just covered by dark shadows. But then he comes in."
"Chris?"
"Yes. I had a lovely small cave where nobody ever came. And it connected with other cave as I found out later. And once I was alone here and suddenly did hear someone's voice. My God, how I was afraid!!" Mason dreamily smiled.
"I can image," Mary smiled.
"I found out that he hides himself too. We did start to talk, then gradually became friends... But I never saw him. I just heard his voice."
"And what happened then?"
"Then... Then suddenly all were finished. He just disappeared. I waited him until last day before my leaving in the boarding school. But he never returned. Probably, he just bored with our play."
"And it's more then children play for you," Mary said.
"Probably. It was like the pulling of a clear air... after suffocating Capwell's house. Yes, it's was one more blow for me."
Mary embraced him without words and then asked: "Why you did remember it now?"
"In fact, you did remember it today."
"No, I just heard him as you're dreamed and talked to him."
"Well, I do not remember. I slept."
"Do you think that it's strange way?"
"I do not know. No, I don't."
"If he came in your dream earlier?"
"I remember nothing like it."
"All right, a time will show if there is a contemporanety or not. But I am glad that you're told me about."
"Why?"
"I wish to know all about your life. Especially about the time when we still didn't met each others."
Mason's face strained.
"My life has many demons."
"Mine too, do you remember?"
"I remember," Mason deeply sighed. "Mary, I just beginning to afraid. How I did live without you? And how I'll?"
"You will not. I never leave you any more."
"Now it seems to me that while the past terrible year I did live in the waiting of you. Even if I did not realize it but I waited that you will return. Even I do not know if I felt it actually then--"
"May be you really did. We often wait for those persons who already gone even if in fact we're aware that they will not return back. Sometimes you just cannot resist."
"And sometimes such expectation appears not groundless," Mason buried his face in her hairs. "Even now sometimes I have dreams where you're dead. I wake up — and you are here, near me. And earlier it's happened on the contrary."
"When I was in the hospital, I dreamt about you too. I did not know who are you, I did not know what is your name; I did not remember even that I love you. But you dreamt me."
"We really need to compare our dreams. I wonder, may be we had the same dreams for both of us?"
"Who knows," Mary smiled. "Now I already would be surprised to nothing."
