Chapter 88 — The Truth Can Be Hurt
In the next day Eden calls to Mary in Mason's apartment. She contacted with the doctor who was recommended by Mary, and he said that she needs to make the full set of tests in the clinic.
"What I suppose to do?" Eden sounded with panic tones. "I want that nobody be aware about my tests! Please, help me."
"I'll try," Mary promised, watching to Mason who looked through his papers before leaving in his office. She knew that she makes all right, but Mason's reaction could be unpredictable if a case concerned to his family. "I'll call you later, and we will discuss the case."
"Where are you going?" Mason asked as soon as she hung down."
"To Eden's," Mary replied after pausing. "Why do you ask?"
"Just I'm curious..."
The tension hung in the air between them, and nobody made attempts of them relieve it. Mason cursed himself for a silly suspiciousness.
"I am glad that you so care about my younger sister," he finally said.
"We are one family." Mary smiled. "Lets go, you can be late for a court session."
Mason nodded and walks to the door, but suddenly remembered something.
"Wait, it seemed me that you have the doctor's appointment today."
"I have," Mary expressively curved her back making her stomach became strongly convex. "After my visit to Eden. Mason, what's the matter? Why you show such interest to my doings today?"
"I don't sure," he responded. "But for some reason my guts prompts to me that something is going on here."
"Nothing. Mason, go, you will be late."
Still not convinced Mason gone out, and Mary deeply sighed. Yes, it can be more difficult than she guessed. How she suppose to hide something from Mason when he reacts even to the slightest changes in her mood. This opening a little upset her, but at the same time it's making warmth spread deeply inside her.
* * *
An hour after Mary already entered into Capwell's house where Eden will live because Cruz's house has been adapted for her wheelchair. Well, may be soon it's would not be required, thought Mary, passing on the familiar atrium. Kelly run downstairs and embraced her.
"Mary, how I am glad to see!"
"I am glad too," Mary embraced her."
"How is feeling my future niece?" Kelly asked, looking at her stomach. "How much time we have until the moment when I will get the show of Mason's crazy happiness?"
"Still month," Mary replied. "Mason already becomes crazy; he hung up the calendar and recalculates the remained days."
"I can see it!" Kelly giggling. "Well, I hate to say it but I need to go."
"O, I want to ask if you see Eden today, are you?"
"In the belvedere," Kelly answered, closing the door.
Actually Eden was in the belvedere.
"Thank God!" she excited, seeing Mary. "I am so nervous while waiting."
"Don't be nervous," Mary sat down on the bench near her. "What is the doctor said you? If he did the first testing?"
"Yes, he did," Eden deeply sighed, trying to calm down. "And then he told that my condition clearly has changes."
"What of sort?"
"Triggered of reflexes. Muscular activity."
"If he explained what it can mean?"
"Yes, he told that... He warned that I don't have big hopes — because such changes testify more often about a beginning of condition of spasticity than about a recovering. Though he did not exclude my recovering too."
"And he sends you out for additional tests."
"Yes, he does. Mary," Eden's eyes filled with tears. "What I suppose to do if my condition really becomes even worse? I just cannot bear it."
"Eden, Eden, wait. Don't think about the bad way. The doctor said that he does not know what the cause of your condition's changes is. Let's wait and see results of all of tests."
"If I can make its. How I'll make it without knowing the rest of my family?"
"Do you still do not want say about them and Cruz? Even now?"
"Especially now. And in any case, not earlier than all becomes to clear up for me. Please, Mary, help me."
"Well, I don't going to refuse," Mary smiled. Eden smiled too through her tears. "OK, let's think how we'll arrange all of it..."
