Gina "dies", Mason and Mary see each other by glimpses at her funeral. Mary tries to resolve problems with Mark and he decides to pick up a prostitute to get rid of the impotency. But he fails and when the prostitute begins chuckling, he smashes her in the face.
Mason sees Mary and they have a talk. Mason tells her that he has got a large amount of commissions not long ago (he was Augusta's attorney at her divorce from Lionel and he was intermediary between CC and Augusta at the painting resale). Mary consents to his suggestion of having dinner together at "Buzz's". However, Bobby, the prostitute that Mark has picked up, comes to "Buzz's", looking for Mason, who is the only lawyer she knows. She asks Mason to help her to find a man who has damaged her eye. Also Mary asks Mason to help Bobby and, finally, he agrees.

At the Orient Express Mason asks the police painter to draw the attacker photofit from Bobby's description. Then Bobby and the painter leave, and Mason sees Mary at the restaurant and asks her to join him. |
Mary does so; they are talking. Mary sees the photofit lying on the table and, being unaware what Mason works at, says it is Mark at the picture. |
Mason, who did not consider Mark to be Bobby's potential attacker earlier, begins spying upon Mark, and finds him at the porno-cinema. Mark notices Mason at the cinema and asks him not to tell Mary about it. Mason agrees. After Mark leaves, Bobby comes from behind the bushes and says it is Mark who has hurt her. Mason arranges the meeting of Mark and Bobby and makes Mark pay to Bobby the damage. He also demands Mark to reconsider immediately his attitudes towards Mary; otherwise she will learn all the truth about him. |
Scared Mark puts together with Mary and then invites her to the restaurant to celebrate their "turning over a new leaf". |
Mason watches the way Mark keeps his promise. But Mark fails to get along well with Mary even for a night. He loses his temper and Mary leaves the restaurant. Mark says to Mason that nobody can make Mary happy. |
