Next day May runs across Mason at the Capwell's mansion and he suggests her to go riding. She explains she is on duty and cannot go with him. She is really sorry about it, and Mason says he will go later and maybe her duty will be over by that time. |
Later Mary comes to the stable. She sees nobody there. |
Mary sits down on the straw and recollects their riding along the cost and then she imagines Mason comes to her and she says she loves him and they are making love. |
In reality, she suddenly awakes on the straw, where she accidentally fell asleep and hears Mason, who has just returned, asking her the same question as the one in her dream: "Mary, are you here?" |
Mary hesitates to make her dream real and asks him how his riding was. However, Mason understands soon that she has come for something. |
Mary tries to explain that she decided to make decisions in her life by herself but she cannot express this. |
Having suddenly scared of her own determination, Mary attempts to go away but Mason stops her and asks if she really wants to go. Mary answers she does not. |
Mason re-asks her why she came here and they are making love. |
