Mark is having breakfast at the Orient Express. Mason is talking over the phone with somebody about him and gives an order to act. Mary comes out of the bedroom and she is surprised that Mason is still here. He says that the business he works on went easier than he expected. |
Mark finishes breakfast and he is about to go. At the exit of the restaurant a policeman arrests him on a charge of rape. Mark notices Julia at the restaurant and asks her to be his attorney. |
Mary resents Mason's filing a charge against Mark and accuses him of willing to revenge. Mason answers that she is too kind-hearted to make Mark pay for what he has done. He answers Mary's question that he has enough evidences; otherwise he would not file a charge. |
Mary says he does not spare her feelings because of his wish to punish Mark. She says she does not want the intimate details of her marriage to be discussed by everybody. She asks Mason to withdraw an action. Mason does not want to do it. Mary shouts that she does not want to be punished along with Mark, and this trial is going to do this. She refuses to testify against Mark. |
Mary is sitting on the sofa in silence. Mason tries to reconcile with her. Mary says with bitterness that although he apologizes he keeps on doing what he wants. Mason does not understand why she does not want to go against Mark and she did not want to do it from the very beginning. He even asks if it is affection for Mark. Mary answers indignantly that it is not. |
Then Mason concludes that the reason is a baby and the possibility of Mark's paternity. He promises her that he will accept the baby no matter who the father is. Mary does not want a scandal but Mason says it is the only way to protect their baby from Mark. Mary says with annoyance that there must be another way. |
At the District Attorney's Office Mason finds out that Julia is going to defend Mark. He persuades her to give up this case but she does not want. Then Mason asks her to speak to Mary. Julia unwillingly agrees. |
At Mason's presence Mary tells Julia about her horror when Mark began raping her and that now Mark says it was by mutual will. Julia asks why she did not tell about it earlier, Mary answers that she was afraid Mason would do something terrible if he found out the truth. Mason confirms that her fears were not groundless. |
After Mary left Julia says that Mason will not be able to win the case. Mason answers he will anyway. |
CC comes to Mason to speak about his business with Lionel. Mason answers he does not care about Lionel now. CC asks what the matter is and Mason finally tells that Mark has raped Mary. |
CC is shocked and he feels for Mason. He offers his help but Mason says nobody can help them. |
After CC left Mary comes out the bedroom. |
Mason tries to talk to her but she says she wants to be alone. |
