Mason, who knows about Sophia's and Mary's close relationship, decides to follow Sophia and goes after her to the convent. He sees Mary, who meets Sophia at the convent gates and gets over a fence again. This time Mason decides to stay at the convent longer, and having noticed at its territory the car from the laundry, steals the soutane from it. Sophia and Mary are walking and talking, Mason watches them. |

At a moment Mary approaches very close to the bush of roses behind which Mason is hiding but she does not notice him. When Mary leaves, Mason goes around the bush and smells the flowers Mary was just smelling. |

Inside the convent Mason begins painting his picture on the wall, a message for Mary. Mary sees it and she is surprised. |
|
Later Mary and Sophia notice that the picture becomes larger. Sophia says that the girl on it looks like Mary and Mary confirms her suspects that the man looks like Mason. |

Mason is going to continue the painting but Mary's appearance make him run away. He is hiding at the nearest proper place: reconciliation room. But it turns out immediately that the place is not so proper, as Mary has come just for confession. She comes into the reconciliation room and Mason tries to get out of this deadfall in horror. But nuns are passing by at that moment and he cannot get out not having revealed himself. |

Mary begins her confession and Mason talks to her, trying to change his voice. Mary asks for advice what she should do. She speaks about the man she is in love with and about her marriage vows. Mason interrupts her, turning the conversation from Mark to himself. Mary says he scares her, she doubts whether he is capable of deep feelings. She says that they are very different, that he can kill people with his words and he can be cruel... She says her feelings confuse her and asks for advice. |
|
When nobody answers her, Mary leaves her part of reconciliation room and enters the priest's part. Having found nobody there she is surprised a great deal. Her surprise grows when the priest steps sedately by her to the reconciliation room. |
