Ted is waiting for Christie at her door. Mary and Christie appear and he wants to talk to Christie.
But Mary stands on his way and requires him to go away. She says that Christie passed the test on the lie detector.
"It's impossible!" Ted cries out.
He says that Christie could not pass the test. She must have told some other story, otherwise it would have shown that she lied. Mary says that she doesn't care for the test, she doesn't like that Ted pursues Christie. He makes things worse for himself by following Christie everywhere.
Ted addresses to Christie again. She knows he didn't hurt her. There is nothing to be afraid of; he just wants to talk to her. Mary interrupts again, he will talk to her neither now nor later. Ted wants to say again that he just wants to talk to Christie but Mary threatens to call the police if he doesn't leave them alone.
Ted says she can do it, he won't go away anyway. Mary goes to the apartment to carry out a threat, Christie stays in the corridor.
They look at each other for several seconds, then Mary returns.
Finally, Ted agrees to go away. Mary and Christie leave the corridor, Mary holding Christie's shoulders. Mary says that Ted is lucky this time, and promises that when he tries contact Christie next time, he will be thrown to jail.
Ted objects but Mary cries "no" from behind the door. Ted in the corridor tells to himself that Christie is scared of something. They have to talk face to face and he knows how to arrange it.

Telephone rings. Christie gets pale, Mary says there is nothing to be scared of, it probably is Steve and he worries about her a great deal. Christie asks Mary to take the call. It's Jade, she asks for Christie.
Christie doesn't want to talk to her and asks her sister to say that she is not home (or she is in the bathroom). Mary says that Jade is her friend, and now she needs for friends very much.
Christie takes the receiver unwillingly. Jade says that she is concerned for Christie after what has happened. She considers Christie her friend and hopes that Christie feels the same about her. Jade invites her for lunch to her house.
Christie is about to refuse but Mary, having heard about the lunch, says that she should have fun. Christie says she doesn't want.
Mary says that Jade is on her side, as she gave Steve important information. It's a chance for Christie to begin a new life.
Christie agrees unwillingly. Sitting next to Jade, Ted thanks her. Jade doesn't like that she had to cheat Christie. * * * She thanks Mary for taking Christie here. Her mother will be at the work all the day and they can be together with Christie all alone. |
Before leaving, Mary asks when she can pick her sister up. In an hour? Jade says immediately that in a couple of hours. Finally they decided on three hours.
Mary goes away, Jade and Christie sit on the sofa. Christie thanks Jade for the invitation. She says she is afraid of going out. "Why?" Jade asks.
Christie says that because of reportages people stare at her in the street. Jade says that everybody will forget about it soon, Christie doesn't agree, because the court will begin soon, it will make her "famous" again. At one tame she would give everything for appearing in the editorials but not this way.
Jade says that she understands her. She used to dream of being a movie star until she came to Hollywood and tried. Christie is surprised, and Jade explained that the actress's life seemed to her too nervous.
They are laughing, then Christie gives Jade a hug and thanks for support. She stands up and offers having lunch. However, having turned, she sees Ted next to her.

Jade explains that she wanted to give Ted a chance. "You lied me!" Christie's eyes are full of tears. |
Ted says that it wasn't Jade idea. "How could you! You told you were my friend!" Christie is crying. "You were my friend too!" Ted interrupts. "And then you accused me of rape. Christie, why?" |
Christie is about to run away from Jade's apartment in silence. Ted approaches her and pushes her from the door. Christie tries to go around him, then runs to the telephone to cal the police but Jade prevents her from taking the receiver and says that Ted won't hurt her, he just wants to talk.
At Ted's request Jade goes upstairs and takes a telephone with her. Christie and Ted stay face to face.
