In the next day before the trial hearing Mason reminds Ted that today could be decisive.
Ted is nervous. Mason says he will try to break Christy's resistance.
Laken comes in and Mason leaves her alone with Ted.
Christy's questioning trained by Steve, she weakly answering his questions. Steve demands that she must to dress like a poor but honest girl and crying during her story of the rape.
Christie says that she could not but Steve does not care. He says that things will work out if she will do what it requires. But in only case!
Aware what he can soon die, CC invites Mason come in the house. |
He thanks Mason for Ted's protection and care of Brandon. Mason takes his father's words, but wants to go back in the court. However CC says he wants Mason to re-take his former work as my lawyer for Capwell Industries and return to live in Capwell's house. Mason stunned and does not believe that there are no dirty tricks.
CC insists that he has no ulterior motives and apologizes for the way he had been treated before. But Mason does not believe him and do not want to accept this gift. "I don't want to set myself up for another fall," Mason says and going to go away. |
"Damnit, Mason. What you know how much I love you?" CC says in despair. "No," Mason immediately replies. "Only how much I wanted you did too." Steve and Christy appear in the corridor of the court house, they are accompanied by a tail of journalists. At the same moment Ted and Laken go out here. |
One of the reporters asked Ted if he want to say something to Christy just before the hearing and Ted answers that he prays to Christy will tell the truth.
CC asks Mason does not leave and continue their talking. Mason did not hide his shocked condition. |
CC says that he changed his mind about great many things. He finally learned what it's so important to be in his life. And the things that are window-dressing. It's his family. Every member. He needs a love of his children very much. They need to get love too. Mason is a part of him. CC Capwell asks the oldest son to give him a second chance.
Mason says he fantasized about it often enough but he just never believed it actually happened. "But as is," CC says. He continues that earlier Mason fought against the family, against him, his values and Channing, but now something has changed. CC have seen Mason with Sophia dispute his mixed feelings about her. Mason stood by Gina and now helping to Ted. Whose things show how much Mason does really love the family. |
Mason turned to his father and says that he never felt in any other way. And he never stops to hoping that one day they learned and CC take his back. Tears are in CC's eyes. "Do you come back to live here?" CC asks. "Nothing I want more," Mason replies and shakes the father's hand. |
They heartily hug.
Mason returned to the court house. Cruz said that they are checking everyone who bought shirts similar to the one that the rapist was wearing. |
Mary walks by and calls out Mason. He immediately goes to her.
Mary returns the audiocassette to him and arrogantly says that she more than ever convinced of Ted's guilt now. Mason says he does not believe her: he can tell by the look on her face that it had some effect on her. Mary denies and says that tape told her just that Mason having a real gift for bending the truth to his own purposes.
Mason answer that everybody bends the truth. Otherwise they'd be constantly at war. Mary pompously said that to some people Truth is sacred. Did he think that she would be persuaded to change her mind and then influence Christy on the basis of that tape? Mason admits that it occurred to him. Mary throws that no one is gonna fight you harder than she will. She hopes that jury in there, and the people of Santa Barbara can see through the lies that he and his brother are telling. Mason bitterly says that she is smug, hypocritical and close-minded. That's the worst combination he can think of.
Mary hopes that her testimony yesterday didn't hurt Christy's case. In fact she is gonna pray about it. And Mary leaves. |
