The doorbell rings at the Capwell house. Mason opens the door. Mark is on the threshold. |

He apologizes to Mary and wants to speak to her. Mary goes to the guest house with Mark, saying she need take her belongings anyway. |

Mason says that if she doesn't return in 10 minutes he will go there too. But he fails to keep his promise, because immediately after this he learns that Kelly has pushed Dylan out of the window in the Capwell hotel room. Kelly is suffering from shock, she doesn't recognize anyone and all the family including Mason is trying to decide what they are going to do, as Kelly can be accused of the murder. |

At the guest house Mary sees that her case which she has left in the room has vanished. Mark says he put it away as they can settle everything. Mary says she won't stay. Mark recollects their relationship when they where in high school, he says he fell in love with her then. Mary answers he was her best friend then and he still is. But she does not consider him to be her husband. Mark asks her to give him a chance; he says he had no opportunity to be her real husband by now. Mary says it doesn't mean anything, because she loves another man. Mark loses his temper, Mary wants to go away but Mark grasps her arm and stops her. He says he will make her happy if she gives him a chance. |

Mary brings her case to the living room, Mark tries to convince her to stay: at first he blames himself, as he pushed her to Mason with his attitude, then he says Mason will abandon her, as he won't want to have serious relationship. Mary answers Mason has already made a proposition. Mark accuses her of being mercantile. |

Mary is about to go and Mark asks her to allow him to hold her at parting. She hesitates but allows him to do it. Mark asks a farewell kiss. Mary allows him to kiss her but then moves over and she is going to leave. Mark doesn't let her go and cries that she is his wife and he has all the rights. Mary tries to fetch away but Mark holds her tightly. He rapes her. |
