Cruz realizing the rest of it: Christy ran away from home to get away from Steve and he terrorized her to accuse Ted. Mary repeats Steve's words that this is her fault. If she not gone into the convent he do not go to Christy. Cruz calls Steve a psychopath but Mary says that part of it is real truth. She did get away and did leave Christy to be victim. Cruz says that she was a kid, she cannot blame for that. Mary still blames herself and Cruz says that everybody have things in mind that they should go back. The truth is Mary did the best she could at the time.

At this point Lionel comes in the hall. After Mason's a few sarcastic remarks Sophia tells him that Lionel saved CC's life tonight. Mason surprised and wonder if he would have done the same under the circumstances. Lionel thinks that he would do. Mason sneers that Lionel is too very kind-hearted and a real softie. He saved life of the formidable foe with who he's engaged in a duel to the death. Lionel retorts that Mason is trying to disguise their feelings with sarcasm but in vain. He thinks that Mason cares his father more then he really going on. In fact CC is the driving force plan of his life. Mason says that now he might have to ask Lionel to step aside. Mason has a reputation to defend.
Sophia tells Lionel that he's wrong - Mason does not love CC, so that night. Gina replies that Sophia is the only one who loved CC. This is what she thinks. But she is who hurt him most. Mason interjects in the dispute. He says that this is a contest he's proud to say he wins, hands down. Asking Lionel to become the judge he voiced his sins. He tells that only recently he let CC catch him in an affair with his most recent wife Gina. Then he starts talking about his revelation about Channing's real father but Sophia stops him. Shocked Mason realizes that Lionel knows nothing about his paternity. Despite Sophia's resistance he is going to open the secret to Lionel but at this point the doctor comes to them and says that Eden just is out and someone else can visit CC. Mason grabs his chance and goes to his father's room.
In CC's room Mason tries to talk to his father. But CC Capwell is not responding to his words.

Christy pushes Steve away. She pulls the gun out from under the sofa cushions and points Steve.

She says that she's going to kill him but Steve is sure that she will not be able to. Christy replies that she hates him and she will be happy to see him dead. Steve quietly offers her to shoot him. Christy answers that she wants to kill him slowly so he suffer much more. When Steve came in their family Christy was so happy to have a big brother... who supposed to take care of her, not be so cruel! Steve retorts that she also was cruel to him by rejecting his love. He feels absolutely done too so she can kill him for the better.
He takes Christy's gun, cocks it and then returns it to Christy. And he continues goad her saying that the shot make free both of them and finish their mutual suffering.
Returning Ted sees the scene through the window and quickly goes in the house.
Steve turns to the sound of the door opening and staggers back pushing the coffee table.
The table hits Christy's leg and she shoots by surprise. The bullet hits Steve and he collapses. Ted stunned looks on.

Mason is sitting at the bedside of his father and saying mostly to himself.

He does not know why he had come and tries to imagine what the father feels right now. And that he would leave for his children if he dies. And this bleak picture: Ted, his youngest, he leaves a burning memory of a father who doubted his own son's innocence. To Kelly, he leaves a heart filled with resentment, because he destroyed the life of the only man she ever loved. To Eden, he leaves the impossible task of living up to his expectations. And Mason, his first born, the one who loved him more and hated him more than all the others, the one who wished you dead a thousand times, he leave with nothing. And some kind of need to be here talking with him like this.
Mason asks for forgiveness and asks his father not to die, holding up CC's hand to his face.
