Mary goes downstairs into the atrium early in the morning. She looks at Mason who's sleeping in the fountain and recalls her kissing his hand. Then she takes Mason's hand and trying to wipe the traces of her lipstick off, but at the point Mason begins to wake up, and Mary runs away. Awakened Mason looks at his hand and sees the mark. He says himself that it's still there. He didn't dream it. Mary really kissed him.

Later, they meet in the lobby. Mary apologizes again for yesterday's misunderstanding. Mason's rubbing the circled mark of the kiss. Mary asks about it and Mason replies that apparently he did leave the reminder to himself and then forgot what he wanted to remind himself.

They discuss CC's condition and then Mason offers Mary to watch him on TV. He went out of his car this morning and a mini-cam jumped out of the bushes. He had to say something to them. Kelly goes downstairs, and Mary leaves.

Mason tries to talk to Kelly about the upcoming meeting of the Board of Directors, but Kelly outraged. How he dare to stay here, in this house after what he and Gina did to the father? Mason says that he has as much right to be there as Kelly does. In fact, he's going to nominate himself as President and Chairman of the Board. Kelly's very skeptical.

She leaves, and Mason has the very similar conversation with Ted who still resents things from Mason's TV interview - about Mason's going to assume control of his father's international conglomerate. From the same TV news Mason learns that Steve Bassett was killed and he was actually Christy's rapist.

Mason looks though his papers in the briefcase and notes again the trace of lipstick on his hand. At this point Mary goes downstairs with the tray.

She starts chattering about her delicious breakfast and about how everyone around has been very nice to her. Mason takes her tray away and puts it on the table. Mary begins to say that she's probably interrupting, but quickly fell silent under Mason's gaze.

After a pause Mason invites her to dinner tonight. Mary instantly agrees, much to Mason's surprise. They agree to nine o'clock.

Mary's a shy when Mason says that it's a date. At this point Mason's watch set off: Mason set it on stop-watch to see how long it would take Mary to say "No". But in spite of his assumption Mary said "Yes."

Some later Mary unpacks her new dress and put it to herself. The knock on the door: it's Mason. He needs a couple of his corporate law books.

Mary promises to have all her things moved down to the guest room by tonight. She asks where they are going tonight. Mason offers the Orient Express restaurant and Mary agrees. She starts chattering again, but Mason momentarily presses his finger against her lips and then strokes her cheek.

Bewitched Mary weakly says he's probably supposed to be at the meeting. Mason replies "yes," and walks away.

At the meeting of the Board of Directors Mason blocks the Walton hotels incorporating. He has his own vote + 2 Brandon's votes: so his 3 votes against 3 votes of Eden, Kelly and Ted. Eden tries to take Sophia as the new director to overcoming the tie vote, but no avail. Mason offers to re-vote "in favor" if they would hold an election about naming Mason as acting President and Chairman of the Board. His younger siblings agree to hold the new election, but the result is exactly the same 3/3. Eden is staying on both positions.

Meanwhile, at the DA's office Julia tries to convince DA Patterson to drop the case against Christy and Ted. Patterson resists, but Julia manages to persuade him.

The evening. Mary's waiting Mason at the study and daydreaming how Mason comes after her, they are dancing, kissing and then go upstairs, leaving the path of their discarded clothes.

After finishing her fantasy Mason really comes in the study and Mary follows him out.

Mason and Mary meet in the lobby in the morning, and we learn that Mary canceled the date at the last moment, referring to headaches. Mason hopes that the next date will happen tonight, but Mary answers very evasively. Mason quotes Joe Louis (the American boxer): "You can escape, but you can not hide."

Mason asks what is Mary hiding, but she still tries to leave and he changes the subject: he asks if Mary hasn't seen Eden. Mary replies that she saw her earlier this morning, just before Eden left on her trip. She had a suitcase in her hand and implied she was going to be away for a couple of days. Eden was very up about it wherever it was. Mary got the impression that it wasn't business. Mason is very interested in this information, and he suggests that Eden went somewhere with Cruz.

Later, he calls and tries to "locate" Eden, but he does not succeed.

Later, Mason and Mary meet in the same place as in the morning, but Mary is already in a much more cheerful mood. However, the conversation quickly goes to the uncomfortable zone for Mason: Mary is trying to understand why she feels that there's tension about CC and Mason (and also about CC and Gina). Mason evasively says that Capwell is a very unusual family with unusual relationships. Mary leaves and Mason follows her, but Kelly just comes in the house and tells him not to chase after Mary. He must not give her the impression that he's interested in her. Kelly also informs Mason that Mary was asking questions about him and Gina in the morning. She said nothing, but Mary's going to find out one day. It's not that hard to figure out. May be Mason ought to tell himself before she hears it from somebody else.

When Mason and Mary meet again, Mary tries to go out unnoticed, but Mason says that he was looking for her. He asks Mary do not listen others about him and do not judge him through their eyes. Mary says that she hasn't but she wants make up her own mind because Mason is very well in hiding things about himself. Mason says that she is hiding things too. Every time he thinks he knows what she is feeling Mary turns away and runs in the other direction. Mary admits that she has been confused. Mason says that she has been scared and it's nothing to be ashamed of. Mary asks why he scared to tell her what's going on between him and his father. Mason admits that he scared of this topic. He's afraid that if he tells Mary without her knowing some family history she'll misinterpret.

He says that what happened between his father and him was just one blunder in the series of missed connections that began years and years ago. But he believed there were high hopes that they would finally learn to live together in some semblance of peace. Mary asks about Gina and CC. Mason replies that Gina is a mixture of strengths and weaknesses. She expected things of CC that he couldn't give her. Gina expects a lot of things of people that they can't deliver. She was hurt and angry.

Mary says that she was wrong about her saying that even living and working in the Capwells' house she does not join their family. She finds it hard... not to get close. This is why she's going give her notice. Mason upset and frightened. Mary says that as soon as she finds someone to replace her and take care of CC so she's going to work at the clinic more. Mason does not understand about the clinic and Mary explains that that's a little clinic on Milpas Street where she has been helping out in the last few weeks. After a short dispute Mason simply says that she needs here and asks Mary do not go.

Kelly gently asks Mary why she is leaving. She quickly concludes that Mason somehow offended Mary, but Mary explains that he's not and in fact, she likes Mason. And the problem is that she feels some bad tension and anger around him in the family, and it makes her uncomfortable.

Kelly says that Mason did not hurt her directly but has done things that have had an effect on the whole family. She understands: he wants to be accepted by everybody else but sometimes he is his own worst enemy. He has this manner about him that puts people off sometimes. Even when he doesn't intend to. And in the long run it makes it hard for him to be close to people. Mary says that he is not alone in that.

Kelly asks Mary to re-think her decision to leave. They do need her. It's never been more important to them to have someone that they can really trust. In fact Mary does more toward easing the tension around here than anything that's happened here in a long time.

Mason calls the flower shop and orders the bouquet for Mary. Not the biggest, but very special. When Mason's asked about the card he dictates after moment thinking:

Roses are red,
Lilies are white.
I hope we can try again.
How about tonight?

Mason covers the phone with his palm and mutters: "What is happening to me?" He adds to sign the card just "Mason" and says that's a rush.

Taking the flowers from the courier Mary is very surprised that they are for her but she's glad and thanks Mason. He honestly says it's a bribe and asks do him the honour and let him take her out tonight.

Mary still hesitates. She admits that she changed her mind about leaving. Just because the situation is difficult she shouldn't run away. Mason admits that he is also running away but for another reason. He has something at stake. Mary promises that if he wants tell her about him and his father she will listen to the whole story and she won't make any quick decisions. She asks why CC hates Mason so much.

Mason says that if he can explain it to Mary, it's going to take some time. And he doesn't think this is the time or the right place. Mary thinks that it's all right. They can make it later. Mason says that he has to make an important call and then they'll see. He's just going to need a little room. It's going to require some thought.

Mary leaves. After making sure that Eden's not going to be back in 24 hours Mason calls the Mr. Short from the competitive hotel chain (which Capwells' preparing the merger) and suggest him, being unhappy with the price, rise it and deliver an ultimatum about taking a decision in 24 hours.

Eric informs Mason that he's just got off the phone with the chairman of the board of the Walton Hotels. They want an answer in 24 hours. Take the deal or leave it. Eric doesn't inclines to succumb to the ultimatum but Mason wants to call a family meeting. Eric reluctantly admits that Eden is out of town and he does not know where to reach her. Mason answers that they will hold the meeting without her.
During the board of directors meeting Mason tries to win over Ted, then Kelly. He admits that he is fighting for his place in the company. Now nobody's going to give it to him so he has to take it for himself. He is ready to vote for the merger in exchange for to be named the acting president of the Capwell Organization and replaced Eden as Chief Operating Officer. He believes that he's more fit to these positions then Eden is. Ted and Kelly disagree. Eric's tabling the vote and adjourn the meeting on an authority of section 32B of the bylaws of this company which states that he has 24 hours to assemble all the voting members of the board. He's willing to take the risk so they'll wait one more day. Reluctantly, Mason agrees.
Christy nervously waits for DA's decision about charges against her and Ted. Mason says Mary that his father could not be in better hands. She replies that she's going to do everything she can to keep his father alive.
At CC's study Christy and Ted are anxiously waiting for DA's verdict. Christy wishes that they just told the truth in first place. Every stupid lies snowballed on a greater disaster. Although part of her doesn't really care and willing to pay for lies. But she just don't want Ted to pay for two, it's not fair. Ted regrets even more because the losing of Laken for good. She begged him to tell the truth and Ted wouldn't. Now that he wants and she's gone. Christy hesitantly says that if Laken loves him she'll come back. Ted says that Laken was so hurt. If he can just find her and somehow explain...
At the point Mason comes in. He says that the DA just called. He's reached his decision: he's not going to prosecute. They're off the hook. Christy and Ted delighted and embraced each other happily.
Mason meets Mary in the hall. He's trying to get Mary for dinner. Instead answering Mary notices the photo in the hand of Mason - Mason's framed picture. She likes this photo and Mason suggests that Mary might wanna have it. She could put it in his father's room since Eden is not here to take it out. Surprised Mary says indignantly that if there is a chance it's going to upset your father she's not going to put it in his room. "Are you serious?"
Mason deftly turns the conversation to the future date, trying to ensure her agreeing for tonight. Mary is still hesitates. Mason tries to found out her reasons sorting through the options. Mary confirms none and goes away, referring to the work.

A little later, Mary and Christy return home to eat delicious food to celebrate Christy's newfound freedom.
Christy asks her sister how she like work at the Capwells. Mary really like it. She feels real needed and useful. Christy is skeptical and gently trying to warn Mary against Mason. Mary says that Christy no needs to worry about her, there's nothing going on between her and Mason. Christy thinks that Mary's idealistic and serious about life because she hasn't had much experience. Mary replies that she had seen a lot in her work and in just living. She is not just a babe in the woods. Christy says that Mary is so sweet and warm and gentle. She would like be faithful and love as Mary is.
Mary thoughtful asks if Christy thinks that Mason could be that man. Christy does not really know Mason but she thinks that Mary is more of a challenge for him than most of the women that he knows. And once the challenge gone he'll lose interest. Mary terrified about her younger sister's cynicism. Christy says that she just develop the instincts for certain types. Mary replies that she has a kind of developed some instincts too... about what are in people's hearts, and she thinks that there's something very good in Mason's heart. Christy says that girls think of all kinds of reasons why they like someone. But sometimes the reasons that they come up with don't have anything to do with the real ones - with the fact that they're attracted to them sexually. Christy believes that's all like Mason will just eat Mary up for breakfast and spit out. Mary freezes and then sadly says that she just lost her appetite.
