Mason returns home (he was out to collect himself after Mary told him the truth). Mary says sometimes it seems to her that nothing has happened. |
Mason is still shocked at what Mark has done and says he has committed a crime. Mary says she does not want a trial but Mason is determined to punish Mark. He goes to see Mark, Mary follows him. |
Mason finds Mark in the Orient Express and calls him an animal. Mark impudently says that even if Mason beats him nothing will change and Mark is the father of Mary's baby. |
Mason tries to shame Mark but Mark says she wanted it. Mason loses his temper and slaps Mark's face. |
Mark is angry and he yells he will never let Mary divorce, the baby is his and he will raise him or her. Mason does not agree with it but Mark says the blood test will take a while. |
Mason and Mary come home. Mary does not want to speak about Mark and about what has happened. But Mason cannot calm down and they discuss the trial and the child's custody. Mason is sure that if the rape is proved Mark will have no rights for the child. |
Mason speaks about evidences of the rape and Mary is afraid that he believes Mark. Mason says trusts her words and promises that Mark will be punished. |
Mary confesses that she wishes she were not pregnant now. |
Mason says the God gave them this child and there is a reason for it. |
Mary reminds with the bitterness that the baby can be Mark's. Mason answers it isl be her baby and he will love it anyway. |
Mary does not see the solution of this problem and thinks about leaving the church. Mason comforts her and offers going out. He says that it will not be worse anyway. Mary answers: "I hope." |
Mason and Mary come to the empty bar at the beach. They recollect their first visiting this place. |
Mary sadly says that they were carefree that time. Mason reminds that they were afraid of each other and their feelings. |
Mary agrees but says that time was better. Mason says he will not hasten her with the annulment and will agree with any of her decisions if they stay the one family. He holds her and promises that everything is going to be all right. |
