Mary comes to the wall and begins drawing horses at Mason's "painting"; the latter watches her from the corner. |
Sister Isabel comes to Mary and asks her what she is drawing. Mary answers it is the classic subject, two people are riding, and then she asks how many priests are at the convent now. Sister Isabel answers only two ones are here. |
Mary is surprised and begins realizing some things. Looking at the picture she is recollecting her and Mason's riding at the beach. |
When Mary goes away, Mason comes to the "painting" again and goes on drawing it. He recollects the words from Mary's confession he has listened about her doubts about his fidelity and he says to himself that she was right. |
Mason is so engaged with his work that he does not notice Mary standing in the doorway and looking at him. |
This moment Sister Isabel comes in and, seeing Mason at the wall, she is scared. |
Mason runs to the exit, she wants to catch him but Mary stops her saying it is a seminarian. Sister Isabel is convinced by her words but not completely. |
