Mason buys a toy monkey for the future child, and Mary wonders why it is not for her.
They are waiting for the priest who explains them later that even though Mary has solid grounds for the annulment, it will take from half a year to a year, besides, they have to talk to Mark anyway.
Mary is upset, as she has to wait for long and Mark is not in the country. Mason thinks they just have to wait but Mary believes they should forget about the annulment, as the board of the church will not allow it after speaking to Mark. Mason is sure Mark will not mind even when he learns about the child, as it is Mason's. Remembering the rape and the possibility of Mark's being a father, Mary says Mark can be against, wishing to revenge.
Mason does not think Mark will wish it but Mary refuses strictly to continue the talk about the annulment. Mary asks for another way to solve everything, Mason says Mary can sue for a divorce but Mark can delay it for long period, besides it is important for her to get the annulment from the church. Mary refuses strictly to involve Mark into this and leaves.
Later in the bar Mary hears Mason try to find Mark over the phone and wrests the receiver from his hand.
Mason dreams his child lying in the cradle and trying to buy,and to sell stocks, and also offering alcohol to his daddy. Mary wakes Mason up, he laughs, remembering the dream.
Mary apologies to Mason for her behavior yesterday, and Mason says that in spite of her prohibition, he called Mark. Mary is frightened, realizing that Mason called Mark to Santa-Barbara to hasten the annulment.
