Cruz accompanies Mason to the Capwell house and tells Eden about the accident. |
Near the house Mark is assuring Julia that he will arrange Mary's funeral. Julia says she will be on the Capwell's side, Mark threatens her to inform the Bar that she was going to help Mason with the accusation. Julia enters the house and CC requires to tell what has happened on the roof. Julia explains that Mark was threatening both of them, and Mary just wanted everything to be ended. She was crying she didn't want a trial and she wanted to be with Mason. |
Mason goes downstairs and hears Julia speaking. Mason asks a question and Julia asks that Mary was crying and yelling because she was disappointed with the situation with the trial and the baby. Mason asks what exactly she has said. Julia repeats Mary's words that everyone gave her advices about her life and she just wanted to be loved. First she addressed to the church for this, then to Mark but Mason was the only person who loved her. |
Mason leaves the house in silence. Ted is about to follow him but CC stops him, saying that Mason needs to be alone. Eden objects, she says that first of all Mason must be told that his relatives love him, and she follows her brother. |
Eden finds Mason in the gazebo. She is trying to comfort him. Mason says that Mary died unhappy because of him. He is sorry that they didn't leave the town, and he hates himself for his intention to bring the case to trial. Eden says Mary was very lucky because she had met Mason. Mason accuses himself of everything and asks Eden if Mary knew how much he loved her. Eden is positive that she did. She wishes she could relieve Mason's pain. |
Then Mason is alone in the gazebo. He hears Mary's voice calling his name. But nobody is there. Mason sits again, covers his face with his hands and begins crying. |
The next day. Mason is dreaming that he is sleeping in the clothes across the bed; Mary wakes him up and goes to the bathroom. |
Mason wakes up, he think he hears Mary's voice from the bathroom, but nobody is there. |
Mark McCormick is having a nightmare about the accident on the roof. He wakes up crying and begins realizing that he is guilty of Mary's death; although he tries to confirm himself it is not true. |
Ted visits Mason. The latter is sitting at the typewriter. Ted tries to say he is sorry but Mason doesn't want to talk about Mary. Ted has come to take Mary's clothes for the funeral. He says he can do everything by himself but Mason says he is the only person who knows what Mary liked. |
Mason goes to the bedroom, and Ted leans to the typewriter and reads the poem Mason typed for the memorial service. Mason enters the living room; Ted says he is sorry. Mason rumples the poem. Ted does not understand why Mason blames himself for the accident. Mason says that if not he, Mary wouldn't have been on the roof with Mark. He says he is grateful to Ted. |
The doorbell is ringing. It is Mark. Mason chooses one of the Mary's dresses and gives it to Mark, saying that Mary was happy having this dress on. Mark does not mind but he wants to talk to Mason face to face. Ted does not want to leave. |
Mark says that he learned from the medical records that Mason and he had the same rare blood type, and nobody can be sure that he was the father of Mary's baby. Mason says he knows about it for long, and he gave his blood to Mark when he was at the point of death. |
Mark is angry. He accuses Mason of Mary's leaving the convent and filing a charge against Mark. They quarrel. Mark says Mason is drunk. Mason breaks the bottle and goes toward Mark with the sharp fragment in his hand. Ted stops him by holding his hands. Mark leaves, saying that Mason must not brawl at the memorial service. |
Mason is standing at Mary's coffin and talking to himself. He is recollecting her. |
Then he looks around and sees a women's shadow figure, he stands still but a woman goes forward and he sees it is not Mary, It is Julia. Mason leaves the church, passing by her, CC, and Ted. |
CC delivers a speech at the funeral. Mason goes to the roof and find Mary's cross near the construction on the floor. |
A worker warns him of the danger. Mason goes away in silence. |
He returns to the church, when the memorial service has just been over. Having hung Mary's cross on her picture, he says to CC, Julia and Mark that they have killed Mary and they will pay for it. |
